He was highlighting the problems with the OL. The OL needs to play a lot better for the sake of Glass and the running game.
My point is the OL is struggling yes, but we continually run the same basic run plays, which aren't working!!!!!!! Mackey and Yes, John Branham Jr are the most talented RB on this team, I saw Branham Jr play in high school, and I can't figure out why he signed with us!!!!! He's incredibly talented......Creighton ruined Breck Turners 4 years, and Willie Parker plays sparingly!!!!!!! He for some reason loved Shaq Vann who was very good 4 years ago!!!!! My point is we're averaging 2 yds a carry!!!!!!! Play everyone........Mackey might be in the transfer portal, because of this season!!!!!!! Ask Maxx Crosby, or his dad, who's the back RB, and I guarantee they would both say MACKEY!!!!!!!! He started in the bowl game!!!!!!!

Listen I really like Chris Creighton as person, and as coach, and how he literally has changed a culture at EMU in football!!!!!! We need to figure out a scheme that works running the FB against the better MAC teams!!!!!!! We still have a shot to win the MAC West by winning the next 3 games, and it's easy to play defense when your QB throws the ball 40 times a game...…..Through 5 games, we aren't getting it done running the ball, and this week it has to start, especially with the windy forecast for Saturday!!!!!!! Who's our starting RB?????

Correct. I agree that Mackey is likely our best back, BUT you can have Walter Payton back there and he's not going anywhere when he is running into the backs of his OLinemen at the line of scrimmage, or DLinemen & Linebackers are living in our backfield all day long. (5 sacks and 10 TFL's)

Love the passion, but sadly, the running game issues seem to be about the OLine talent, and the scheme of the run game itself. Creighton himself says we use the pass to set up the run. That in itself says he has zero confidence in the run game. Highly unlikely to get fixed this week, let alone this season.

Bigger problem is opposing DC's see exactly what is happening as well. They have figured out our run game is no threat, so they're scheming to defend the pass, and bring extra pressure on the 3rd & longs we're constantly in. It's a snowball effect when you're one dimensional.

I hope they magically figure it out this week. Just don't get really upset if they don't.

Dear Friends,
Central Connecticut exposed our defense with long passes for touchdowns. Central Michigan took advantage of that. To me, that has to be fixed before we worry about the run game. Yes, part of it has to be improved rush from our defense, but also just better coverage and pursuit to the ball when a pass is completed against us.
If, we haven't fixed this defensive situation, Ball State is going to try to do the same thing as in the previous two outings.

RE: Coaches Luncheons 2019
Dear Friends,
Well, the third coaches luncheon was held with twenty-one people in attendance, including Coach Creighton's parents.
Turan Rush was the guest payer, and started his playing days at West Virginia University. He was not happy there, and transferred to junior college, and was then offered by Eastern.
Coach Creighton said the team just wasn't ready for Central, and seemed ready for Ball State, but certain plays just didn't work as planned (I asked about the double pass), and we missed touchdowns by inches. Line Latu threw the second pass on the double pass play because of the players that practiced it, he had done better then the rest. Coach went on to say that Western will be the second best team we play this year. They have a good quarterback, their defense has improved, and Eastern will need to stop their run game.
Ty Eddington is now off the injured list, but Coach Creighton doesn't know if he will play against Western.
An interesting side line was a question asked of Athletic Director Wetherbee about referees. Out of his answer came the pay for officials of MAC games. They are paid $1,800 a game, and are drawn from the MAC, Big Ten, and Missouri Valley. In case anyone is wondering what the tent was in the Southern end-zone, it was for all former letter winners, and Wetherbee said they had five-hundred there. It was such a success that he hopes to have 1,000 there next homecoming.
Any questions?

Did anyone asked why he doesn't play Grissom, or Mackey? Grissom had one touch for a TD, and basically didn't play the rest of the game, and the exact same thing with Mackey! Thanks Ken for your very through review of the luncheon!

Dear EMUGLORYDAYSthe90's,
No one asked that particular question of Grissom or Mackey. I can tell you from questions asked in the past about why certain players are not playing, Coach Creighton's stock answer has been they did not have a good practice week. Now, whether he just doesn't want to say something else, I don't know.

Correct coaches don't like to get into that kind of stuff in public.

As far as Grissom and Mackey...

Taking Mackey first. I have no idea if he is better, same or worse than others who are playing.

Regarding Grissom. He is really a WR who does jet sweeps. Correct? I think we ran the play with several players carrying the pigskin Saturday. Did Sexton run it once? Latu also?

That said, I'd like to see Grissom get more PT.

EMU runs a lot of jet sweeps. It is a nice play considering Glass has the option of keeping the ball.

'Nickle, you are correct. I think Sexton and Latu both ran it several times vs. BSU.

The jet sweep is so predictable now it's effectiveness is nearly gone. A couple positive runs, and then a couple zero or negative plays with it.

What about screen plays and simple RB passes out in the flat?

Yeah, I know, we do what we do. We pass to set up the run......03-banghead

And we have a perfectly good blocking fullback standing on the sideline playing a few snaps on special teams, I don't get it

RE: Coaches Luncheons 2019
Dear Friends,
The last football coaches luncheon of the year, was attended by twenty-two fans. The guest football player was Thomas Odukoya, tight-end, senior. He has already graduated, and is working towards his masters. Has had his foot broken a few times, and operated on as well. That is the reason he has not seen much paying time. Nothing new to report on the Toledo game other than some of the logic for the two point conversion decisions.
As far as Buffalo is concerned, Coach Creighton admitted that Eastern has to get better at stopping the run game, because Buffalo has one. He would not tell who the starter would be at quarterback, but said he hopes that Grissom will play.
On the recruiting trail in Chicago, he said the recruit that he talked to, was impressed with the new facility, and really liked how the team came out of it, on to the field. Obvious that we knew it would have an impact on recruiting. A question was asked about Central building a facility similar to Eastern's, and the impact on their recruiting. Coach Creighton said it won't be as good, and Athletic Director Wetherbee said Central sent people to look at our facility, and they were allowed to take pictures.
President Smith and his wife were also in attendance, and he said the new medical facility was going to be opened this coming Saturday, with a open house starting at 10 a.m. The Snow medical building will eventually be torn down and the area turned into a green space.
Any questions?
