Now that the NBA is removing the one year eligibility requirement, there will now be only one sport that the California law will be relevant for—college football.
The better alternative would be for the NFL to remove their 3 year rule.
And how do you think an 18-19 year old would fare in the NFL IF he could get on a roster? Man’s game.
NFL teams don’t have to draft players who are not ready (the rule just makes that easier for them); but there are some; Trevor Lawrence or Tua tagovailoa could go already, Calvin Johnson was NFL ready as a freshman.

Lol. They would be ran out of the locker by NFL vets. Not like NBA. And not prepared physically but more importantly mentally for the men’s game. NBA is full of Brandon Ingram types. And even if a once in a decade player is able to do it, why change the rule for a very few?

30 years ago a free education at a university was worth a lot.
Now, you are basically offering the same as a highschool diploma. The value has dropped so low it isnt really a payment anymore.
That generalization is false. Some majors don’t carry the same value just because it is a college degree. Not having a career plan. Not being smart about choosing a major. Not being smart about paying for college. Borrowing without understanding when and how you are going to pay off loans. Thinking college is a 5 year party to delay life.
Keep up with where the labor market is going and choose accordingly. College credits in HS. Go to CC first. Work for FedEx.

I saw a local news whiny story about the "student loan crisis" in which 5 recent graduates were shown, 4 dingbat girls and 1 pansy flip-boy, and they all had stupid degrees, "Advocacy" and such. There's no way such degrees are worth $90,000 in debt.
The athletes who get the jock degrees certainly aren't getting much value, but most of that is their own fault. Grow up, pay attention in class and actually try to learn.

I guess you guys arent getting it so let me break down a little further.
When I was in college I would go in the summers to work for an international company overseas. They had a crew of engineers. You could get into the training progam with a degree, any type of degree. If you had a degree in music appreciation you were snatched up into their program.
I dont know if that was before your time or not, but there was a point where you could start and have a great career with a high school diploma. I dont remember at what point they started requiring degrees, but they did and for a very long time they didn't care what degree you had, as long as you had a degree.
Now, if you don't have a degree in the right area, it is basically worthless.
So, did that help you understand?

A new College Athletic Association will be formed. Will we be ready?
Maybe the bigger question is why did we allow college athletics to become such big business in the first place?

Well, if you loosen your mission to accommodate one thing it becomes easier to lose focus in other areas too.

A college degree, on average, is worth about 2 million dollars over the course of a lifetime.
If a kid does not see the value, then he should play overseas.
What does it say when a person earns that much over his lifetime without a college degree? And that person considers himself of only average intelligence...
Not 2 million dollars total, but 2 million additional dollars.

We're to blame, we are the ones stuffing all this absurd money into schools coffers. So, all we have to do is to quit watching and supporting and everything will take care of itself.

lol. There ain’t no going back to the crossroads where the choices were made.
Errbody knows that.
If we were in one of the big money conferences, we’d only talk about which of the little impoverished guys to let in—if any.

California’s official passing of “pay to play”, allowing athletes to profit off of their likeness will be the beginning of the end of the NCAA. Time for the University of Memphis to step up and position itself to be a part of the new College Athletic Association. Whatever that name will be.
