RE: Unofficial 2021 Football Recruiting Thread
Dear Friends,
First of all, the five recruits that Western has received, only one, the quarterback is listed as a three-star. So, let's not get panicky about this early recruiting. I also agree with Jerry, that Easthope, probably wanted to get a bit farther from Ann Arbor, and from what I read on the Western site, his family, or coaches, etc. had some connection to Western. Eastern is not going to win every battle over recruits, and neither is Western.
Ohio under Solich has not won a MAC Championship. Yes, they have had nice records under him. Is that what we want at Eastern?
Fleck? He had one great year at Western, one terrible year, and the rest on a par with Solich.
We all would like to be challenging for the MAC Title. I think it is going to come. It's just taking more time then most would like.

Nice! 1st one to commit. Hoping this starts to get some other guys to jump in. I've always thought that guys start to get more willing to commit when positions/open spots start getting filled up.

Interesting. Very interesting. 247Sports has him top 40 in MI.
Why would player commit and de-commit in less than 30 days?
My guess is that it is event-driven or something like that. For example, a family issue, wanting to stay close to home for some reason, etc.
If GEOGRAPHY is an issue, we should be in the game again. Of his schools, BG is closest to Ann Arbor, then WMU, etc. (other than EMU, of course). Buffalo not too close, etc.
OR ACADEMICS. He just got a couple offers from Ivy league schools, Harvard and Columbia.
I'll definitely be following his recruitment. Saw Allen Treiu's scouting report on him - very solid QB (dual threat) and a very solid person.

Maybe he was a PWO to WMU.

I doubt that. He is a top 40 prospect in MI so he is MAC+ or B1G, but not a prime BIG recruit.
Maybe he thinks with a very good senior year he might get P5 looks.

A few observations (FWIW):
1). I see no open EMU offers to OLs (Boyd is a MSU commit, I believe). This should be no surprise given the number of highly rated young OL recruits on the team.
2). We our listed for both Easthope (QB) and his WR (Fisher).
3). Most all of our recruits are ranked from 19 - . I see little to be gained by going after top 10 or 15 recruits.
4). I checked 247sports.com and I believe they list us for 28 in-state offers. It should be obvious that we ARE recruiting MI hard. Whether we are successful or not, is a separate question.

Belleville recruits a lot of good players.
'Nickle,
There is and has been a migration of very good h.s. players away from the City of Detroit. Don't know if this started with the Great Recession or if it has been going on say 15 - 20 years.
Anyways, they are moving both north and west.
There is a lot of football and basketball prospects ringing Detroit in Western Wayne County, Oakland, etc.

It goes back to 1996 when school of choice came into play. It got out of control and has ultimately damaged a lot of communities. Thank Engler and his cronies for that.

Great move for the kid! The Easthope family has been the "intellectually bluebloods" in Ann Arbor for quite some time. A Harvard degree is a springboard for life after football and if he happens to go there and shine, it does not preclude the opportunity of a transfer elsewhere.

Agree.
I don't blame him at all. He put his education first.
