Very good point. We HAVE TO find a handful of guys that can play LB, DE and CB. We are giving up 36 points per game. YIKES!
Better hit the Jucos.

Okay, but I'm not sure we're going to take a big class as many seniors may return for their extra year of eligibility.
BTW, I wonder if the NCAA will use a 'counting system' like this for 2021:
Count the number of non-senior returnees + number of new scholarships. Those need to be <= 85.
A school can go over the 85 limit by the number of RETURNING seniors which exceed the 85 total.
E.g., a team has 70 non-seniors returning + 15 new LOI = 85 and then can retain any number of seniors for their extra year of eligibility.
Now using these numbers, does a school want to bring back 15 seniors and pump up the total number on scholarship to 100?
Is there a hard limit of say 105 (that might be the total for all players, including walk ons)? Is 2021 a bad year to be a walk on because 2021 rosters are going to be bloated???

But then the next year does the Transfer Portal fill with these same guys pushing to get into the P5 ranks?

Hopefully not another DB, we have 25 on our roster. We should load up on LBs/DEs/DL and try to find a nice RB greater than 200 lbs

Why do we've 6-7 RB? We're desperate for LB! I can't say it anymore! RECRUITING wins at every level! And we're typically between 7th-10th ranked in MAC recruiting every year! Toledo had soooooo many explosive players!

You guys make a good point about position selection in recruiting, it seems misguided.
Glory Days, Toledo will always have more explosive players, they have fabulous facilities, a larger fan base, much more money and have been looking beyond the MAC, like Marshall did for some time. It's a large metro area with no FBS competition nearby other than Bowling Green, thus they have a lot of donor and ad sponsorship money looking for a team to support.
Creighton is recruiting to a program with a history of being the MAC doormat. EMU has a nice campus but the surrounding city has a less than attractive reputation. Eastern has perennially one of the lowest attendance statistics in the MAC as it competes with a major P5 program six miles away, unlike any other conference member. Donor and sponsorship money as a result flow to U-M as well as fan attendance and interest.
Creighton has a tough mountain to climb, to say the least.

Jerry, very valid points about being the biggest draw in town, and being A blue blood MAC program! Ypsilanti has changed since the late 80's as well! But, Harkema and Braun won huge during my college years, and it has been decades since! Creighton and his recruiting and his use of his recruits are baffling! Ala Grissom, Jackson, Evan's, etc.......He has 25 DB and basically zero LB in the pipeline! CC is a great man with great morals, and ethics, but he won't take us up that mountain! We peaked in 2018......I sure hope I'm wrong! 1-5 won't help us either! I just want to see us win the MAC in football and basketball! I remember in 1989 when we were 5-0-1! I honestly thought in 2017 after going 5-7 that A MAC championship was around the corner! We'll want the same thing A title! Your posts are always wonderful, and A pleasure to read!

RE: Unofficial 2021 Football Recruiting Thread
All of you make great points! Yes Toledo may get more explosive players but CJ Parks, Drummond, Jackson and Grissom play second fiddle to virtually no other MAC WR personnel.
Let me add a few more comments: I saw Speight make a huge hit in the spring game last year and I thought he would be a nice addition in a position of need but I was wrong. I don’t like calling out our players by name but I was so disappointed when we played BSU. Huntley came thru a hole and Speight had a clear shot to meet him head on and make a tackle. I almost thru up when he dove at his feet and missed him. He wanted no part of Huntley. The other thing I’ve noticed is that we have a couple rolly Polly DL tipping the scales at 350 lbs. Listen if you’re under 6’ and weigh 350 lbs, you’re not getting off blocks because your weight makes it seem like you’re running with cement shoes.
Mainly I wanted to reiterate that it’s more difficult to recruit stud LBs and DL so why don’t we flip the numbers and have 25 of them on our roster to see if we can get several who can play. Much easier to recruit 5-8” to 6’ DBs so we don’t need 25 of them.
I love Creighton but he’s got to improve his recruiting strategy.

Defensive recruiting has to get better. No doubt. I can't find the impact players.

I'm frustrated as well. This season is what it is. The one positive I am taking is that we seem to be playing a TON of guys which will help us moving into Spring ball with having some film on most everybody. I am getting close to calling a 2021 season a serious make or break season for us given the amount of guys returning and the younger talent we have now.

My question is do we really need another WR? We have noted that CJ Parks has not played this year.
Interesting, a mid-year, full qualifier so he can do spring ball and expected/hopes he cracks the 2-deeps next August.
As everyone knows, we need an impact DL recruit (or two). JUCO or grad transfer.

I agree it's a very odd signee, but it's very hard to ignore those high school statistics for his senior season! 106 catches, 1621 yards, and 21 TDS! And, that's playing in 6A competition in Missouri! Great film as well! Athletic......

Michael Smith sounds like he is wanting to be a professional student. Lol.
https://twitter.com/Iam_smithjr/status/1...85480?s=20
As we've discussed before the 2020 'freebie' year is a blessing to those players who want an extra year of eligibility while being a grad student.
