Not really, the school does a horrible job with pushing new information out, heck you can go to their website and click on links that are years old and need of an update. Coach Sowder tweeted out this morning "We're still here. Still working. @KentStFootball is continuing to move in a positive direction" which leads me to believe those staying behind are hopefully taking over. With signing day looming it is important to have the roles filled.

Still nothing from the university. At this point it's just embarrassing. How do you teach marketing/public relations and still be miserable at it? Setting a terrible example for their students.
Great example, I think that all the time about how horrible business and marketing things are done when we have teach these things yet can’t do it ourselves or hire outside firms.

In my opinion hiring outside firms to design the new architecture building was a waste of money. How do you have dozens of architecture professors, all the alumni and current students and not utilize them while saving money?

I couldn't agree more. I don't get it.

He’s been too busy scheduling powerhouses to come in to Dix to get to the coaching thing.

Mark your calendars for this one!!!

Hey, isn't that the team that almost beat Akron this year? I'm afraid we're heading towards being back to that level...

Yes, they had 2 close losses to FCS programs (Akron & Richmond) and then got lit up in the FCS playoffs by Delaware. Also, seems like they had a bunch of kids enter the portal.

Kent State reports that Coach Lewis buyout will "be reinvested in football program". My question will these funds be additional to the football budget or will monies be relocated from the athletic department general funds.

Buyout? I thought people quit paying them back after Geno Ford’s departure. And how is Colorado going to pay these buyouts when they already claim they don’t have the money to pay Coach Prime’s contract they just inked?

That's usually part of the coach's contract with the new school to pay for the buyout of the old school. Geno just f**ked it up royally, allowing Bradley to make the announcement without a good contract in place. Pure, 100% amateur hour on his part. I doubt Lewis is that dumb.

And was the buyout ever paid off?

If I RECALL, HAZELL'S BUYOUT WAS USED TO PAY AT LEAST THE FIRST FEW YEARS OF HAYNES' CONTRACT.

BUT I COULD BE WRONG???

I honestly don't know. I do know that Geno is making $370K a year now, so Kent could go after that if they haven't been paid.

I know he owed it, we had to sue to get it and he lost, appealed, but not sure it was ever paid. $1.2mil is no small amount.

Geno Ford loses appeal

RE: Sean Lewis
Just got the email Randale pushed out, thought it would actually have something of substance on there though. Didn’t think it would take 4 days to come up with this:

“”We want to thank Coach Lewis and his family for five years of hard work, leadership and dedication. Kent State had tremendous success on the field and in the classroom under his guidance," Director of Athletics Randale L. Richmond stated. "A national search for the next head coach of the Golden Flashes is underway as we look to continue to take the program to new heights while we graduate student-athletes, boldly prepared for life after sport and win championships."”

RE: Sean Lewis
Standard boilerplate stuff and all he needed to do was hit a function key and fill in the coach's name.

Exactly! Like I said earlier, Liberty and then Coastal Carolina had press releases and filled their actual vacancies extremely quickly, but 4 nights later at 8:30pm we get an intern to slap a generic quote to a quick bio and call it a press release. Kudos Randale!04-cheers

Alternatively they could've flushed that money down the toilet and got about the same results.

I really hoped that the delay would come with the announcement of the new coach. That press release with the dreaded "national search" makes it that much worse.

RE: Sean Lewis
I’ve mentioned it before but Liberty lost their coach, hired one away from Coastal who in turn hired a replacement within hours, not days, a week or longer. With things being what they are with the portal and early signing period, these decisions need to be swift. By failing to plan you planned to fail.
ESPN Wrote:Sources told ESPN that the quick timeline to hire Beck comes from Coastal Carolina officials preparing extensively in each of the past two years to replace Chadwell. By digging in on candidates, school officials did not have to hire a search firm and were able to move swiftly.
ESPN

Quote:“If Chadwell does leave Coastal Carolina, Coastal officials are ready. They’ve been preparing for Chadwell to go the last few years, he’s been one of the hottest coaches,” elaborated Thamel. “The name to look at, one of the top names that Coastal could target is NC State offensive coordinator Tim Beck.

“Expect Coastal to have a Chadwell replacement, if Chadwell leaves, by the end of the weekend.”
