RE: Sean Lewis
I won't pretend to know too much about Jackson State Football, but from what I can tell Sanders and Lewis has the potential to be a great combination. It seems that their philosophies of offensive football are aligned quite well. I am not sure if Colorado is in the Big 12, Big 23 or ACC at this point but I would imagine that if this duo sticks together the Buffalos could be poised for success.

Now, as for KSU here's to hoping they find a coach who believes strongly in the Trinity. Gap Down....Kick Out.........Lead Through!

RE: Sean Lewis
I agree with the posters that say the move to Colorado by Coach Lewis is a smart career move. For his ability has a coach the "facts" for a Kent State coach are excellent,
102 years of Kent State Football
Only 2 coaches Don James and Sean Lewis consecutive non losing seasons
Wagon Wheel 4 years in a row
2 of the 5 bowl game appearances in Kent State history.
ONLY bowl game victory.

I think I read that they are considering rebranding again to be simply the PAC. I don’t know when or if that will take place, but it’s probably a good idea in the current climate.

Not really, the school does a horrible job with pushing new information out, heck you can go to their website and click on links that are years old and need of an update. Coach Sowder tweeted out this morning "We're still here. Still working. @KentStFootball is continuing to move in a positive direction" which leads me to believe those staying behind are hopefully taking over. With signing day looming it is important to have the roles filled.

"a horrible job"? It's worse than that.

HA! I thought they were in the Big 8 (later Big 12). I can't keep up.

As far as Lewis, I'm sure hear realized he is a good coordinator, and that's about it.

Not going to rip your opinion. On this line inparticular I don't think that's true because it was reported he did interview for the Cincy HC position. I think he realized that being Sander's OC is a very unique opportunity. In college football the best teams stay the best teams because they get all the best players and there's no way to stop that. If you're part of one of those teams you can eventually work your way to the top (Ryan Day), but cracking in from the outside is hard. And elevating a team that's not in that small group to being a contender is very very hard because you can't compete with recruits. So when Lewis sees a HC coming to FBS that somehow managed to convince the #2 recruit in the country last year to go play FCS and that guy wants him to be his right and man, it's easy to understand why that's a wagon you want to hitch yourself to. Being a great college football coach anymore isn't so much about being a great coach... it's about recruiting a team full of NFL players.

Agree, anti-zip. .... I'm not sure, but getting that recruit to go there may have been part of the movement of getting great African-American athletes to go to HBCUs. It really didn't develop, as only a few did.

Don’t forget those two Midwestern powerhouses UCLA and USC are moving to the Big 10 so they are down to 10 soon.

Great. So not only do we need to watch the HC openings, but the assistant openings nationwide. Soon there will be high schools hiring our coaches. I don't feel the love very much anymore.

I know some may disagree, but I like Randale at this time to make the decision.

He convinced Fresno St to give KSU 1.1million and still got a Bball game back from them @ home.

I hope he has a wizard move up his sleeve (or more)

Time to come home Nick Saban

I hope so. Liberty knew they were going to lose their coach so they maintained a short list. When their coach bolted they immediately turned to their top choice. As that domino fell Coastal Carolina did the exact same; they knew they were going to lose their HC sooner than later so had a short list as well. This prevented a lag at the worst time possible (signing day coming) and negated the need to pay up for a clearinghouse/headhunter firm to do the work for them. Losing a HC is obviously traumatic to the program, losing your top players is pretty bad, but if you don’t fill it, fill it quickly and fill it with a good hire you’ll put the program in a hole that will set them back for a long time.

Agree. They need a new head coach ASAP, even if it means promoting one of the assistants on short-term contract.

Greg Glaus is an excellent right hand man for Randale as well. My guess is they will empathize, but won't get into the petty whining of why a coach left and all the emotions that get involved.

I guess I misread the situation, I thought the whole staff (minus Lewis and O’Boyle) in place meant Sowder would be handed the role and maintain most of the staff which would keep most kids. Then seeing that list of guys in the portal has me thinking the vibes in there must be that isn’t so much a certainty. I hope Randall doesn’t overthink this since it’s his first big search and drags it out longer than it should.

Not sure why Lewis didn't get any serious looks at HC positions this year, but he seems like a really good coach. Hopefully you all can keep up the momentum with a solid hire. I am wondering if you all would prefer to run it back with a current staff member or bring in someone from another program?

Some people just looked at his record, but those in the know looked a little deeper and realized how tall of a task he took on. This is not a well funded program, facilities are lacking and outdated and the overall culture is not good and to get $ we take on 3 bodybag/payday games a year which again is a hit to the coaching record. He definitely turned things around and proved it could happen, just maintaining any positive momentum has been extremely tough over the years. He was in the hunt for a couple HC jobs this year, Cincy and Louisville but probably figured his best move was as OC at a P5, doubling his salary at a program with many eyes on it now and go back into the HC hunt in the very near future. They were 1-11 last year, he brings a high octane offense that can only show improvement, if they come out 7-5 and he’ll have his name right back in the talk for HC and will cash in.

Not really, the school does a horrible job with pushing new information out, heck you can go to their website and click on links that are years old and need of an update. Still nothing from the university. At this point it's just embarrassing. How do you teach marketing/public relations and still be miserable at it? Setting a terrible example for their students.

Great example, I think that all the time about how horrible business and marketing things are done when we have teach these things yet can’t do it ourselves or hire outside firms.
