Sounds like a personal problem. You should work on that.

I'll try.

Be careful, gdunn! After ignoring college hockey for years, I went to one game out of curiosity, "What's the big deal? Why do they have such passionate fans?". And then I went to another. And then another. Somewhere in there I got drawn in. Now I know the difference between the ACHA, the USHL, and the NAHL. I've got USCHO.com and CollegeHockeyNews.com bookmarked. Since you work at PSU, you should visit Pegula- the games vs. Wisky on Nov 1/2 would be a good start. But be careful! College hockey might draw you in too! 04-cheers

You might even get drawn into watching SUNYAC schools...

Damn. But if you have an intimate relationship with Brockport hockey, you need help. I'm saying that as an alum and former sportscaster there.

RE: College Hockey starts in less than 3 weeks
I bumped into this article on the USCHO forum. Wow. Worth a read.
The American goalie in the 1936 Olympics (a college student at Hamilton College) told Hitler to his face in German: "Die Vereinigten Staaten werden Deutschland immer besiegen." (The United States will always beat Germany.)
The same goalie joined the Army medical corps in 1941 and landed on Normandy on D-Day+2.
btw: the US beat Germany 1-0 in a blizzard back when they played Olympic hockey on frozen lakes.

gopherhockeyblog is doing a review of each of the NCAA D1 teams.
He's finished 57 of the 60 teams with just Denver, UMass, & Duluth to finish this week.

Actually, you've got your own league:
https://www.texaschc.com/

The following teams compete in the Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference: Dallas Baptist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, Texas State University, East Texas Baptist University, University of North Texas, University of Texas- El Paso, and University of Texas.

It is non-NCAA hockey. It's part of the ACHA, or club hockey (thanks to Title IX).

PS. looks like Texas Tech has a team: https://www.facebook.com/TechIceHockey/
also SMU: https://www.facebook.com/smuhockey
In the recent past there have been teams at UTSA and UTA, as well.
Some good hockey players come out of Texas these days.

Hockey East released their pre-season poll of their head coaches today. The coaches are seeing BC take a step up this season.

BC is almost always overrated to start the season, but I'll take them predicting us to come in 2nd. It's hard to replace the talent we lost, but this shows good respect for Carver and what he's been able to do so quickly with the program.

Massachusetts will be on NESN/NESN+ 16 times this year.

Gonna see if I can get these right...(Men's and Women's)

BC: 22
BU: 15
Maine: 13
Massachusetts: 16
Merrimack: 8
Northeastern: 21
Providence: 11
UCONN: 9
UMass Lowell: 7
UNH: 16
Vermont: 10

Massachusetts (UMass Lowell as well) doesn't have a women's team, so all 16 are men's games. BC appears to have 7 women's games and 15 men's. Northeastern has 13 men's and 8 women's. So we apparently have the most coverage on the men's side on NESN/NESN+...practically unthinkable a few years ago.

39 games in all are Women's, which means it's about a 60/40 split. That's fairly good.

I hope the game grows in the area. There are some good/exciting pro teams in the area, including the reigning champs over in St Louis. Hopefully it'll help get the colleges involved some more.

I had to do a doubletake reading this, forgetting that Mizzou hockey would be SEC hockey. St Louis hockey has been tied to Chicago hockey for so long (Central District), it would feel weird for those kids traveling to Chicago and Detroit their whole youth to playing in SEC towns.

4 of the top 15 draft picks a few years ago were from STL. St Louis and Chicago have developed into huge hockey factories to go with Detroit (which has been one forever). And of course Minnesota too, but they do their own thing with high school.

It honestly took me like 10 minutes to be able to submit that post because it felt weird saying it.

But also the Preds are exciting and recently made it to a cup final, the Canes made it to the eastern conference finals, and Tampa has the best offense in the league.

There are pro teams in the right states to get some SEC Hockey going.
