They have a lot of municipalities and local restrictions to get around first to get back on the ice. Not every state/city is back up for the access needed to practice. And they said as much in that video about how they were coming back that everything depends on timing.

The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that formal training camps (Phase 3) for the 24 teams resuming play will open on Friday, July 10, provided that medical and safety conditions allow and the parties have reached an overall agreement on resuming play. The length of training camp and, therefore, the start date for formal resumption of play (Phase 4) will be determined at a future date.

Quote:The Tampa Bay Lightning have temporarily shut down their training facility after several players and staffers have tested positive for coronavirus, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Other players and staffers who have been at the facility are being tested. The Lightning and NHL will figure out how to proceed based off of the results of those tests.

The NHL is currently in Phase 2 of its return-to-play program, which allows for small, voluntary group workouts. Only six players are allowed on the ice at a time, and only non-contact drills are allowed.

Hockey is a sport that doesn't have to worry as much as other sports about merely testing positive. Those guys are wrapped up in so many layers from top to bottom that nothing is going to get through. Now the NBA--that's the sport that would do well to call it a season and just wait until next year. I think the NBA of all the four major sports, is most likely to be a hive of covidity when they start playing (and even practicing) But I haven't watched an NBA playoffs, or even an NBA game, in so many years as they are the most irrelevant sport unless you're into one-on-one horse-type games. The team play of hockey is far more interesting, and essentially it is the same game, just different outfits and the nets are a bit bigger- but in hockey you HAVE to have a TEAM, in the NBA, you don't, and sometimes, having a team can hurt you. Now, drop that Puck and let's go Knights!

Sounds like they're going to be close to signing a new CBA along with agreeing on the return to the ice... might be by the end of the weekend...

how ironic is it that Don Fehr and Gary Bettman get this done- while MLB did what they did.

Bizarre, but seems right for this crazy season:

Oh wow, the possibility of a non-elimination round robin between the top-4 seeds never crossed my mind.

they had to. Would have been too big of an advantage for the lower seeded teams having 3-5 games and the higher seeded teams having not played in 5 months.

'canes, Isles, Blackhawks, Habs and the Flames leading the Jets (battle of former Atlanta teams) in 2nd period. Hockey's back. Might have best chance of all the sports to go the distance. We'll see.
