Vegas up 2-1 in 1st period. Would be 5-2 on young season if they can win tonight. Edmonton surprisingly leads the division so far.

Wow. Hard to believe how bad the Sharks are right now after last season. TB also currently on the outside looking in, and Vegas as a WC early.

Edmonton is impressive for the moment, Bruins dominating as expected. Would love to see the Sabres actually make some playoff noise for a change.

Also, Carolina's got a tough division in the metro this year: Caps and Isles have been playing out of control well last 10 games. Will be the most interesting race to watch, methinks.

RE: 2019-20 NHL Thread
So, true story....

I had won tickets to the Senators @ Canes game last night via a Carolina Hurricanes Cool Bars Tour raffle win at my local hosting Carolina Ale House. My brother ended up being the only person to go with me to that even and in the end, it worked out we both could go up to the game last night. He's not a sports guy and this would have been his first ever NHL game in person. The seats were lower level in one of the corners. I was hoping the Canes would win as they had been in a real bad slump and I wanted him to at least see a win and the Storm Surge. Its ends up being a 8-2 dominating win by the Canes. Lucky him, my first Canes game was a playoff game in 2002 versus the Toronto Maple Leafs and it was a loss.

Islanders won both this week and are 13-0-1 in their last 14. Wow! New York has played only six of their 18 games on the road but are 5-1-0 away from the Island. Quite a turnaround.

Meanwhile, Caps are 10-1-1 on visiting ice. That's outstanding.

Edmonton, San Jose and Vegas playing this week. Should give a bit of clarity to the division.

Vegas not necessarily as bad as they've been playing more recently:
Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights has left the team to deal with a “serious illness” in his family according to Ben Gotz of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The Golden Knights relied on Malcolm Subban in their comeback win against the Nashville Predators and will need him and emergency recall Garret Sparks to hold the fort while Fleury deals with more important things.

**Keep looking for that darn Hockey Puck Post Icon every time--and it's still not there; c'mon GTS, have a heart!)

Well, Knights are back near top after faltering a bit there. Losing Fleury hurt, but we are gaining some momentum as season progresses.

Exciting race between Isles and Caps so far. Two very good teams, and lots of storylines.

'Lanch are good, young, and will get better, so Western Conference teams need to act now for their windows.

Anyone else got any puck comments at this juncture? (it is winter, after all......)

Saw someone bring that up. Cliff seems like he'd be a hockey guy.

Vegas beat Anaheim 5-2 and with 50 points is back on top of the Pacific division, with the Canucks ridin' their tails. Been a good season so far, but a tougher fight this year.

Winter Classic in.....Dallas, TX at the Cotton Bowl tomorrow, new Years' Day at 1;30pm EST. Preds and Stars should provide some outdoor hockey fun for everyone! Happy New Year 2020!

The themed jerseys look ASS though....

That said, if Dundon can pull off Raleigh scoring one I will find a way to get there.

We probably won’t get the designated winter classic with the NBC New Years broadcast but there are talks about doing an outdoor game at Carter-Finley Stadium, which as you know but others reading this may not, is essentially in the parking lot of PNC Arena.

Somethin' had to give:

Peter DeBoer becomes latest NHL retread after Golden Knights fire Gerard Gallant

[Image: peter-deboer-gerard-gallant.jpg?quality=...amp;crop=1]
Peter DeBoer, Gerard Gallant

Quote:After firing head coach Gerard Gallant Wednesday morning, the Golden Knights subsequently hired former Sharks coach Peter DeBoer, who was canned last month after 3 ½ seasons in San Jose. The Knights also fired assistant Mike Kelly.

They've just got too much talent to be middling like they are so far. Hope they can get back on track in a surprisingly competitive Pacific Div.

I wonder if that cup run in Year 1 has spoiled the fans and the management. Not saying they aren't good and can't be better.

Oilers have cooled way off. Preds currently out of playoffs, too, as is Carolina. Vegas seems to have righted the ship, in the dreaded middle spot, but mostly because the entire west conference is stinking and the East is taking names right now.

The East is so stacked that its looking like the Hurricanes path to the playoffs might come from wins against the West.

We got to get our mind's right though. TOO MANY games over the last two months have we come out flat to start in and have to try to make a comeback. You can kind of tell from the post game pressers with Rod that he is not happy about it.

Second win for the canes in a row after falling behind 0-2 to start the game. Outscored 7-0 in the first period since the break, yet are somehow 3-2 in those games.

RE: 2019-20 NHL Thread
Well, the Outdoor Game at USAFA was tonight. A full house and all the cadets there, nice fireworks show, and the flyovers are always nice and loud especially while they are making their turns over my home. Sam Hunt put on a good show; it's sad that we saw so little of it on TV. The only other thing that would have improved it is if the Avalanche had won. Tomorrow Falcon Stadium will host a game or two from local high schools. Monday will have Air Force v Colorado College in a cross-town rival game. The Academy has done a great job in putting together a festive atmosphere for the whole weekend.
