Dumb idea.

Now an animatronic dragon or two, say one lurking over each end zone flapping wings and blowing fire at critical times could be hella impressive.

Yeah agree 100%. My high school's mascot is the Mustangs; they have statue of a horse that blows fire during touchdowns, right next to a Ford Mustang sitting on the track as part of a local dealer's sponsorship. That's how you do it.
