Even if you do go for it...go under center and QB sneak it. It was literally inches to go and they snapped the ball back to basically make it 4th and 5. Unreal.

Yes indeed it was.
I am sorry but with time and the lead you do NOT try the 4th and 1 deep in your own territory.
There was so much wrong with the call and the play.
Calling it from the shotgun was a "wtf?" to start to start with,.
Calling it with our second best OLineman on the bench with cramps was a head scratcher.
Calling it at all borders on moronic.

Even if you make it, you still might go three and out the next series, and since it was so deep and just 1 yard, it would not have been a huge emotional hit on the UVA defense.

However, If you don't make it:
1. You guarantee UVA a score and almost surely the win.
2. You send a negative message to your own defense
3. You deflate your own team's morale
4. You give the opposing team a big emotional boost

It was a VERY, VERY, VERY bad play call.

Watched the game. Tough loss. I fear for my Pirates next week as we struggled against Bill&Ted...

I’m guessing it will be highly competitive and come down to the fourth quarter. It’s the way we roll regardless of who we’re playing. Hope you make the trip and enjoy our new stadium. This needs to become an annual home/home series - easy ride for both fans.

Losses like that are difficult to take because you just dont get many opportunities to be in position to beat ranked opponents.

Yeah. After the VT loss where we were trailing the whole game but we’re competitive and had a chance in the 4th I was pretty upbeat and feeling much better about our prospects for the season. We played better yesterday against a better opponent but I’m having a hard time shaking the bad taste in my mouth today. Oh well, on to ECU and back home.
