Not to get ahead of ourselves because BGSU is really bad, but we just might win some games in the MAC this year.

Exactly!

I know BG is very young. Frankly, they had a lot that worries me in the next few years. But in case y'all forgot, we usually lose to really bad teams.
I'm not really getting ahead of myself. The next real game we play is Akron (bye week and Wisconsin.)
It does surprise me that these FCS teams are starting to be less of a push-over. With the millions the MAC teams make on these P5 teams, you'd think the FCS wouldn't be coming up to us.

Keneshaw St is a very good FCS school. However I don't think we have as much trouble with them if we play them right now. Crum's ball placement has been getting better and better. I think vs Kenneshaw he looked a tad rusty.

You know what would be cool?

If one day this board started talking more about our football team which is clearly coming of age than it talks about attendance numbers, the opponent and the AD.

We literally witnessed an historic performance yesterday but you’d never know it by reading these posts!

KSU is 2-2 after a third of the season with some awfully big games in front of it. Enjoy it!

On a different board I found the FCS vs FBS tally so far this season:

Week 4

vs P5
WF 49, Elon 7

vs G5 (0-8)
E Mich 34, CCSU 29
ECU 19, W&M 7
Ark St 41, SIU 28
Fresno St 34, Sac St 20
Hawaii 35, UCA 16
Army 52, Morgan St 21
FAU 42, Wagner 7
Liberty 62, Hampton 27

Season totals:
vs G5: 2-55
vs P5: 1-39

IMHO, what stood out...

- Depth (& quality) of offensive skill positions.
- Overall attitude & body language of KSU was so positive. In particular, I was impressed the way McKoy & the coaching staff handled his unsportsmanlike penalty. He sat out a series or two, but did not hang his head.
- The special teams continue to give the Flashes an advantage.

Call me jaded or paranoid, but I sure hope the University of Michigan does not get any thoughts about snagging our HC.

RE: Homecoming Week-Bowling Green
This game gave me a lot of optimism about how we'll fare in the MAC. Our receivers really shined yesterday. I don't think I remember a single drop. Part of it was Crum seemed to be really putting it on them, but receivers holding onto the ball was a huge difference between our offense and BGs.

If we come out of Wisconsin with all the key pieces healthy I think we're poised to make some noise in the MAC.

FWIW, the ESPN FPI now favors us in 4 games - the 3 remaining home games and the road game at Crackron.

It will be interesting to see if 6-6 forces Kent/the MAC to beat the drum for a bowl game (and the debt that brings on) ... or if KSU says a winning team goes or nothing.

I see the argument being made for both ... but personally, I think it sends a stronger message to the team NOT to go, than to reward mediocrity. But in this era where everybody gets a trophy, not sure.

First order of business ... go 6-6 (or better).

Kent would and should go to a bowl if they are eligible to do so. After going 2-10 last to improve to 6-6 is an accomplishment and the team should be rewarded for that success. If they were 6-6 for multiple years in a row then I could see saying no to a bowl but not for the next couple of seasons.

Congrats to the football team. I lost my money and wasnt upset about it. In talking to people in Athletics they felt they would go to a bowl if they get 7 wins. They cannot reward .500 ball.

I think it's too early to be talking 6-6. Let's see how we come out of Wisconsin.

With that said, if we were to go 6-6 knowing that we sacrificed a chance got a 2nd non conference win in order to make money it would be infuriating to pass on the bowl to save money. If that happened I think Nielsen should be kicked to the curb... Physically by the team.

Exactly! Given they were forced to play 3 very tough OOC games with little chance of winning so they could bring in more $$$, the best they could’ve realistically shot for was 9-3 so 6-6 and an invite should be enough. Saving a couple bucks won’t help the program gain any steam when used in a recruiting or historical aspect. Besides, the MACs revenue system helps alleviate the burden.

If we are 6-6 and do not accept a bowl invite that would be a slap in the face for the fans. We have been to one bowl game in 40 years. If we get invited lets reward the fans and the students. I am sure Shawn Lewis would like that on his resume too. There is still a lot of football left and a beatdown coming in Madison.

YES INDEED, A SLAP IN THE FACE TO THE FANS ....
But are there enough 'fans' to financially support the athletic department/kent state bowl opportunity. Sure, the MAC covers a lot of the $$$, but not all.

I'm sure many Kent 'fans' would love to see KSU FB on TV in a bowl game. But that's a lot different from attending.

Again ... not sure which side of the fence I'm on.

If Kent State is 6-6 it will 110 percent play in a post-season game.

RE: Homecoming Week-Bowling Green
MAC 6-6 teams are not guaranteed a bowl game. there could be as many mac winning teams (or more) for the league's bowl allotment. if a non mac bowl is short a team, a 6-6 mac school would be its last option. i think kent is improving but probably a year away from going bowling. kent at 4-4 in the mac looks realistic. 5-3 possible. neither gives them a winning record. but this is a program that makes you want to root for them right now.
