No we haven’t had a dominant win over a undefeated team yet. One that beat a p5 no less.

We went on the road and rolled over GSU last year with what I thought was a just about perfect gameplan. Game was quite a bit more lopsided than the score. GSU sucked that year and is probably improved, but I think the jury is out on just how much.

There were certainly other games in which the staff and players had good performances. They don't all turn into blowouts. I think we'd all like to see that more consistently, wouldn't you agree?

Yep, we've had "good performances" in the last couple of years, and weirdly, you and your band boys go quiet. Much like with this win.

The difference being, I'm happy about the potential upside here.

I never have stopped posting or slowed down. So what you're really saying is "there's less criticism after good games". Who would have thought.

Yes, Georgia St was a nice clean win last year, one of the few ones.

Usually I'm a 'wins a win even if ugly' kind of guy, but we had too many ugly ones last year.

It wasn't a good win. It wasn't a great win. It was an awesome win!

But, what kind of team do we have. Will we be like MSU, who blew us out and jumped on the struggle bus Saturday? Have we got our swagger and game on? We don't know yet. Better idea in two/three weeks. If we have a strong game against Syracuse that will be telling.

Try not being a poor winner. Perspective here: Football is a game of match ups and this one favored Western Michigan (been the mid major program a lot longer than 7 years). Now if they go in and spank Syracuse (like it or not, in general has better recruits) then you will get your posters in here praising. Are the Lions playoff contenders because they beat a playoff team yesterday?

Of course it is, and for perspective, the same people that whined like stuck pigs about how bad of a hire Lester was, how KB should be fired, how they wanted us to lose last week so Lester would get fired (that happened), how terrible their lives were because they had to support a team that lost bowl games, and shouted anyone down as stupid who dared to see some hope, are the ones that are so quiet here. They had all that “passion” but after a good win? Relatively nothing.

That was my point.

And nobody expects the Lions to do anything, hello?!

RE: NIU getting worked
Georgia State wasn't a 'good' win -- it was a win against a lesser team which managed to expose a weak Tennessee team and survived against an FCS team in Furman. WMU did what it had to do and the result was a little outside of what people anticipated, but WMU winning solidly was the generally expected result.

Saturday's win doesn't quash anyone's well-reasoned criticisms of TL or KB, especially criticisms of the hiring process. A successful season this year won't change the fact that better decisions could have been made in replacing Fleck and they didn't happen. TL has way more job security than a coach in his situation should have.

Besides, some of us have better things to do than to be constantly be in here bemoaning the status quo.

I would not be all that surprised to see our defense get embarrassed again by Syracuse.

To be fair -- we Obliterated GA-State. To a team that beat an SEC team -- an under .500 SEC team but an SEC team regardless. And VA-Tech had to survive Furman as well to win by merely 7. If we beat GA-State by 10 in the end, I would agree I wouldn't call it a 'good' win... just a win that we needed, earned, etc. But 57-10 with our D stepping up and showing Real Promise? A Good win. But, it's just 1 game.

Quote:I would not be all that surprised to see our defense get embarrassed again by Syracuse.

I wouldn't either. However, I Would be surprised if it was AS bad as last year. They don't have the same QB. Our D showed improvement-promise last week. We already played them. That said, this is on the road, and if we're too high-and-mighty after WHIPPING GA-State, where the D thinks they have all their ducks in a row or close to it -- yeah, our D will still get handled. That's what I fear.

In the overall landscape of schedule strength, beating up on GA State won't do us a lot of favors. But hey, they could turn out as a 9-3 team and I'd look dumb, but it wouldn't be the first time. I think they've got big time issues that may take a game or two to correct.

No, but to be honest, we aren't finishing the season unbeaten...so, SOS really has little to no impact on what happens with this team other than a potential bowl slot, but we know that SOS has little to do with selections.

I think the real value in the win over GA ST is that it shows the players on this team that THEY control the outcome on the scoreboard. When you listen to coaching, when you are responsible for yourself, when you care about each other. That they are capable of rising to a challenge presented by their coaching staff and the other team.

Say what you will...GA ST came into this game with the hot hand. The quality of the win isn't always in the opponent.

I don’t really have a dog in this (message board) fight, but I’ve seen a lot of positivity on the board since the game on Saturday. I think a team should be celebrated for wins & held accountable for the losses. It’s part of being a fan. In the end, we want to see the team trending upward and building on the year(s) prior.

Several people on this site say that but nobody here knows if it's true. It's all opinion.

I'm not going to complain about something that I don't know to be fact, that's a waste of energy.

Oh, for sure, it's definitely opinion. But until KB says otherwise, perception is reality.
