RE: Rice v Texas *Game Thread*
We can slap lipstick on a pig but any noticeable changes from last year are minor.

Let's see what this staff is made of because there's no reason to approach any drive (not within the shadow of our endzone) as anything other than four-down territory. No sign that we can come remotely close to stopping them so let's throw balls to the wall. Be as aggressive as possible.

At about 6:35 left in 1Q we still had 2.2% chance. That’s 1/7 into the game for an adjusted max of 0.63

Might be our max for the game. If so, that ain’t no moral victory. We need to answer with 2TDs like we did with those last cats.

I'll be happy if I never see this team run a WR screen again

The offense should play a series or two on defense because they’re not giving the D any rest otherwise. Outcomes would probably be the same...

So there’s a chance?

Agree. Need 3 yards and we go laterally.

Embarrassing. 30 point dog against the #12 ranked team in the country full of 4 and 5 stars and we're going to follow the exact same gameplan that we always do. What's the harm in taking a PA shot on first? Wasn't Pitre a star on his track team? Make Texas respect you or at least make them think you're going to do *something* different. By the time we throw some quirks at them the game will be over.

Punt coverage team has looked good so far. But then they get lots of practice.

Good 3rd down defense. They need 5 so we don't put a defender within 10. Playing chess not checkers.

it seems we pretty much follow the same game plan no matter who the opponent is and no matter who our personnel may be.

Making stops on 2 out of every 3 plays won’t cut it.

Except to be merciful and perhaps work on different things, I don't see why they don't throw downfield on every play.

1Q offense stats....

UT 209 yds
Rice 26 yds

Surprised the score isn’t worse. This is a glorified scrimmage for UT.

Defense wasn’t set on that play. No timeout from our Stanford Mensa
