First shutout by the UT defense in 19 years. No noticeable injuries. So, positive game.

Could someone with access please ask Toledo's media team to give a microphone to the sports reporters when they are asking questions at the post-game presser?? It would be beneficial to know what the questions are that the coaches and players are trying to answer.

RE: UT vs Murray State Game Thread
First half was uncomfortably close. 3rd quarter was good to see some dominance. What I liked (given a healthy dose of perspective due to the opponent):

Drew Rosi looks like he could become a real threat this season.

Mitch stayed mostly in or near the pocket—I only recall a couple downfield runs.

Special teams play was very good.

Have to give the D some credit, for sure—I thought their QB and tall receiver would both be problems for us, but the Rockets bottled the QB run up better in the second half & pretty good pressure kept their passing game from hitting big ones.

O line: some good, some not (mostly in the first half though)...just keep grinding and getting better and we’ll see what we have come MAC play.

Started slow, caught fire and put up 45. Can't complain about first shutout in 19 yrs. Their QB is one tough hombre. My only criticism is the run game. We will need to run the ball better down the road.

Thought the same thing. Most players aren’t exactly giving extensive, specific answers from which you can discern the question. Very hard to hear the question-someone needs to repeat it over a mic or give one to the reporter as you mentioned.

RE: UT vs Murray State Game Thread
Overall, Toledo was able to work on everything they want to do. Defensively, they got off to a slow start and looked inept as usual against an offense with dual threat capabilities. If Toledo would have been playing a better opponent, that's the kind of start that can keep a team from getting on track. However, they woke up, made the needed adjustments and pitched a shutout. Offensively it was great to see the tight ends being involved early. Rosi was excellent tonight. Anytime you have tight end capable or big plays, it can open the offense to a whole new level, which is good, because it can open room for the underneath routes. The pass thrown by Carter for the touchdown was just a smidge from being the most beautiful and perfect pass I've seen thrown since Bruce G. That thing gave me goose bumps. If they build a great O-line for the next couple of years, Carter Bradley is going to tear apart secondaries. It was nice to Finn get in. He seems to have a great feel for the pocket. Jacquez Stuart looks really fast. The road game next week will paint a very clear picture of where UT is at.

Other than that, the donut truck was a great addition. People were lined up all night buying those things. The Taco Truck is great addition as well, it really fits in behind the student section. The lines at the regular refreshment stands were long and slow as molasses.

I think your original accessment was fair. Murray St was doing a terrific job of out thinking the defense on those first 2-3 drives.

Lost I think in the interception overturn at the goal line was that Mcdonald made a terrific play to take that ball away. It wasn't a clear interception, he hacked it out of the receiver's hand. Then the doink. Either of those gone and Murray St maybe gets that rhythm to make it a game a bit longer.

For the most part, I thought we out athleted and conditioned them, which really took by the end of the half as Murray St players were falling like pins.

Being a week away from a big game against Georgia, I think Murray St deserves a lot of credit.

It's been like that since they started showing the pressers on the internet, what 15 years ago. They have to know about that, but I don't think anyone cares. The website still has issues. The media guide has tons of errors. Nothing ever gets fixed.

RE: UT vs Murray State Game Thread
The good: Mitch looked really good throwing. Aside from a couple of overthrows on deep balls, was really zipping the ball around there. The skill players played well. Flint & Davis are both playing great.
The not so good: The O Line didn't seem to open any running holes in the 1st half, so that was the most troubling thing to me. Also, tacking was really poor (again.) Several plays it took 3-5 Rockets to bring down 1 MSU player.

Couple notes on participation:
- Long played guard in Heidecker's slot.
- Ateman replaced Berg at tackle some point - in Q2 I think.
- I expected at least 1 ®Fr wideout would contribute this season, but didn't expect it would be Maddox. He can fly, and did a nice job on punt returns.
- Announcers said that when they talked to Wright pre-game they were told Peters would play, so puzzling why he did not.
- In the presser, Candle said he planned to play Finn no matter what, so seems maybe Wilkinson is odd man out in the QB room.
- Kelly and Stuart also can both fly, and showed some flashes late.

RE: UT vs Murray State Game Thread
Certainly nothing NOT winnable, left on the schedule. QB might do to learn more than one touch on the ball. Health matters though there seems to be capable young Fr and reshirt Fr. Not sure if there's depth on the lines or not. Having Defensive side up to the competition at the beginning of Q1 and Q3 would be nice.

Should be a fun two weeks.

BYU beat USC in OT. That is going to be a very tough game.

They have 20 fewer scholarships, so it's not surprising the they would wear down.
