He/they may grow into it, but not getting a team ready to play a scheme we ran for 11 years is inexcusable. Having a bad week of practice when you haven’t played 5 minutes of good football yet is inexcusable. I drank the Kool Aid from day one about Coach Collins and all the social media hype. Now he has to turn it down, get to basics and try to build credibility. I’m not optimistic. The sales pitch was the hype would lead to better talent, but who’s hyped to come hear now, they have no idea how to use Tobias Oliver, and what if we win 0-1 more from here on?
My conclusion is:
1) PJ got the hell out of town because he knew the offensive line -- a CONSTANT problem during all his years -- was completely imploding. And it has done. It was already undersized, underpowered, and lacking depth. They're down 5 OL to injury. Every single person that goes down on the lines at this point is being replaced by a walk on taking their first EVER snaps of CFB.
2) There isn't a single competent passer anywhere on the roster with the possible exception of Graham, which is appropriately also injured and unavailable as the 3rd stringer. Not a single one. None. Zip. Zero. Nada. I would say your second stringer could start right away at GT, but Patenaude would rather platoon 4 walk-ons, one for each down, for reasons not even God knows.
3) Nobody good wanted to coach for PJ on defense or special teams. Or if they did he wasn't listening. That Collins could come in with a shambles roster built for an entirely different system and produce out of the gate a better defense than PJ managed to field in every year but his first (when they were coming off being a Tenuta coached unit) is pretty damning.
4) Patenaude is dubious at best as OC
5) There is a disconnect between the players and Collins, and Collins didn't see it until it was too late. His own defensive captain told the AJC they were sleep walking through practice all week. If you've been as ****** to mediocre as GT has been in the last 3-4 seasons, you should have zero reasons to lolly gag.
6) Every single player who got a PF drive saving first down for Citadel by jacking their *** **** jaw over a Citadel player after a 3rd down stop needs to have lost 30 ibs this week from having to do 1,000 up downs a day in front of the whole team.
7) The ACC league offices are far more interested in cupping Mack Brown's scrotum over 1 second than even mentioning their crew that completely melted down on keeping the game clock at the end of regulation. Had that **** gone on in Chapel Hill for a Mack Brown game the ACC would have fired the entire crew by now.
