Guys...lets not fight over this...USM fans need to stand united for who we have in place...theres nothing we can do but show our support for the school. I do wonder though, we always hear about the alabamas, nebraksas, etc that they have bigger guys....is it really that hard to recruit big football players to match size for size?

A reality check.

USM isn't going to be a national powerhouse anytime soon. We may get ranked from time to time, and may have a big season that gets us to ten wins. But the truth is that we are a public university in Hattiesburg, MS that plays in a non-BCS conference(Don't chew my head off guys, I'm just telling the truth). It's hard to attract recruits. If we resided in Florida or California, Bower would have a juggernaut on his hands. But we don't, and he doesn't. Instead, he has built a solid program that might not blow away the world, but always manages to impress.

You might as well be happy with him. From the looks of things, he will be here for a long time.
ew505 i couldnt agree more with your statement, i wish it wasnt so but i aint complaining coz even our state bcs bretheren are in the same boat as us. we do what we got to do with what we got

since this thread is turning into a USM VS USM thing couldnt some one move it to the USM board? sorry I dont like airing our "dirty laundry" on the conf board we should keep it in the family.
Bower is not going to be a coach that is going to win games 55-3. He will win year in & out. He will win CUSA & get USM to bowl games. That's alot more than most of the 117 D1A coaches can do. He's not going to be they type of coach that is going to try & win you over with his personality he is what he is.

I have a guy that I work with who is a HUGE albama fan, his son was recruted by Bower to come to USM. He said he had never really thought much of USM until after he & his son had talked w/Bower. He said out od all the coached that came into his living room that Bower was the one guy that seemed to truly care about his sons wellbeing & education. His son went on to play @ Bama because that had been his lifelong dream, but came very close to signing w/USM.

Having heard that recently has really kinda changed a few opinions I have had about Bower.

This is a non-KoolAid response. Besides I like Hawaiian Punch!

The point I was trying to make was that I'm very surprised that Bower hasn't been extended. It was in his current contract. Football is our money maker, so is stringing Bower along on his extension in the best interest of the program?

We may not agree on the level, but Bower has been successful. To me, extending him and giving him more of the tools to be more successful is the way to go. Hopefully that will happen soon. I didn't mean for this to be a discussion on his accomplishments, but to say wait a minute, what's going on here with the extensions, where are the usual bonuses, raises, etc. that follow a successful season.
