The Owls opened the season with a close 14-7 loss to Army, which just suffered a close 24-21 loss to Michigan, which is still ranked 10th in the AP and coaches' polls. So, if you're scoring at home -- and we are -- the margin between being in the top 10 and being in the Bottom 10 is only one fourth-quarter touchdown pass and one overtime ball strip. In related news, while I was on the set of SEC Nation last weekend, I convinced myself I was only two protein shakes away from being built like Tim Tebow.

9. North Texas El Paso State-San Antonio


There's a Texas-sized wad of four mid-major teams in the Lone Star State that is becoming more and more indistinguishable. The good news is that many of them go head-to-head over the coming weeks, and that should sort this out. The better news is that they are all currently better than Rice. Unless you are Rice. Then that's not better news at all.

We're being laughed at against the likes of UNT, UTEP and UTSA. Time to drop football.

Nope. I can see a possibility of us winning multiple games in conference. I think the probability of that is greater than the probability of a winless or 1 win season. Much greater, in truth. In fact, I can see a very tiny probability of winning 6 in conference to go a bowl. Maybe about the same as going 0-12. More than I thought 6 weeks ago.

But to each their own. When I would say things like this about Bailiff, I would be labeled a "Bailiff defender". I guess now I will be called a Bloomgren defender. Fact is, I just call 'em as I see 'em.

Sure would be nice to get one of Walt's Signature Wins this week. But I guess we will have to wait until 2020.

No doubt the potential to win is there.. much more so than last year. Winning 6 sorry just ain't going to happen. Maybe we can pull off a couple of wins who knows. the kids certainly deserve some success going their way. Tough to spend 4-5 years in a place losing like that.

I did say it is a tiny percentage - way off deep in one tail of the bell curve. But I do think we will win some games and not end up in the Bottom Ten. I don't care where UTEP, UTSA, and UNT end up.

I agree the kids deserve some success. I just think they will get it.
