Bought another home game against ODU for $800k. They are taking football serious. Might be an option for 12. I'll hang up and listen. 03-shhhh

Finance isn't the problem with Liberty.

BYU has image issues. Liberty could be the next Notre Dame.

Liberty with AAC exposure would be a pain for any team recruiting the Greater VA Tidewater area.

Well if religion is the only thing that keeps them or BYU from receiving an invite to the adult table then College Football is in deep trouble, the constitution provides for free speech and freedom of religion...

Nothing in the constitution about being politically Correct or being nice, being kind with words or any of that "good stuff".

People don't need to like Liberty but if they are hindered I'm sure that some of that money will be used to to prevent that.

Personalty don't care for them, they haven't proven anything yet as far as athletics at this level.

The fact that they are a G5 and have to buy games form G5 schools speaks volumes.

Their bigger problem is is using online tuition as an ATM.

true, but we also have the freedom to associate with people who align with our values and if Jerry Fallwell wants to preach anti LGBTQ+ stances, then nobody is under any constitutional requirement to associate with them.

Freedom "of" religion in old english also means Freedom "from" religion.

it's not a problem if we (AAC) get a cut...if they wanted to offer say 30 million plus the entry fee paid over their first 6 years in the AAC (same length as UConn's exit fee) then I'd be OK with Liberty...that money plus UConn exit fee would make the next 5-6 years a financial windfall for our membership.

The AAC is not adding Liberty. They are basically a for-profit using their online enrollment with no standards to bank all the money. No respectable university is going to associate with them just for that, which isn't even to mention their other issues such as a having a "Center for Creation Studies" that pushes pseudo-science. Liberty's only chance is that the Sun Belt gets desperate and they can bribe their way into that. The AAC will never be in that situation, and I very much doubt CUSA would be either.

Same thing for Grand Canyon. Despite all the yada-yada on the Expansion Board about how strong a candidate GCU is for other conferences, they're not. They're still a for-profit in all but name. No one in the MWC, WCC, or Big West is going to associate with them. They will be in the WAC or some other similarly weak conference in perpetuity.

Expressly as an ATM for Athletics? Let's be real, Liberty has no great plan of bettering academics or becoming a great National Research university. Leadership at almost all colleges and universities is divided between academics who have a big picture view of what higher education can and should be globally and at their school and lifelong administrators who have been trained to manage the education process nuts to bolts. For profit universities are not concerned with your educational experience or the greater good as a university.

Pay me and I will give you a degree. Liberty has far more in common with for profit universities than it does with BYU or Tulane. But the point is moot because if there is one room where cultural fit matters it's when university presidents meet. They like things they can recognize and Liberty 's model is an outlier to any room of college presidents from any conference in FBS.

While you state that they are using the Online tuition as an ATM for athletics, the endowment at the university is growing by leaps and bounds. So is doesn't appear that they are using all of their funds on sports...but I admit they are using a lot. The campus itself is under constant construction and it looks like their national ranking is improving.

I'm not quite so down on Liberty and they could be force in the future.

And to be completely above board...I have a daughter that is a senior at Liberty (Residential, not online).

I think the idea that they have played football since 1973 and the only conference from NAIA to FBS that has ever accepted them is the Big South says everything.

OK, so now you just changed your tune from Money to not being accepted. OK, so Falwell SR. was quite a divisive man. Whether he was right or not, he came across rather Westboro Baptistesque. I can see why other University President's didn't want to bring him into the fold at the risk of being associated with him.

The not accepted part is for not acting and behaving like traditional universities. That enc$passes the weird finances and the political part

By political part, I assume you mean not being a socialist indoctrination center. Got it.

And by weird finances, I'm getting quickly growing endowment and facilities ant athletic department....All at once.
