2019 USNWR Rankings
National Universities:
#24 - Georgetown
#46 - Villanova
#64 - Connecticut
#84 - Marquette
#104 - Creighton (upgraded to National University-status)
#125 - DePaul
#139 - Seton Hall
#179 - St. John's

Midwest Universities
#1 - Butler
#5 - Xavier

North Universities
#1 - Providence

Congratulations to Creighton for jumping into the national university status. Big recognition right there.

While UConn gets all the recognition for their basketball programs, their academic addition cannot be stressed enough.

Very respectable. I would have thought, however, that Providence would be classified as a "national university."

I have walked/driven the campuses of six of the 10 BE universities:

Butler (have seen thoroughly)
DePaul (have seen thoroughly)
Georgetown (have seen thoroughly)
Marquette (only vaguely remember driving past)
St. John's (have seen thoroughly)
Xavier (have driven by fairly thoroughly at least twice)

The campus that I find the most distinctive is that of St. John's. A modest number of acres, fairly building dense and some beautiful old structures. Has a certain quirkiness to it.

RE: 2019 USNWR Rankings
not that i put much stock in USNWR but if research and doctoral programs are part of the emphasized difference between regional and national, then I wouldn't be surprised by Providence. PC and Butler are the 2 smallest schools in the conference and small in general with enrollments around 4,000. I am a surprised how small enrollment is at Xavier. Would have thought it was between 8-10,000.

It’s mostly based on research

Thank god UConn is rejoining... having a school roughly every 20 spots is really satisfying to my OCD. Just need SHU and St. Johns to figure it out!

so it's not surprising that smaller schools are not national status then... smaller schools like PC and Butler would likely have less resources and a different mission than a larger and research oriented school.

certainly the national vs regional status (and IMO the USNWR rankings in general) has very little to do with quality.

Actually it's based on the number and kind of graduate programs at the university.
