Random Question about the BOV
Does anyone know how one gets on the BOV? It says its governor appointed, but do you apply to the governor? Are you nominated? It doesnt seem like a transparent process at all.

RE: Random Question about the BOV
I checked the Constituent Services section of the gov website, but didn't see anything about BOV on there. You might want to attend an office hour and ask them in person about the process.

RE: Random Question about the BOV
Yup. I gave $5 to Northam’s campaign and now I’m on the ODU BOV.

That is my immediate thought/assumption as well.

I don't know how reliable https://www.vpap.org/ is but I searched 5 BOV members that had been appointed in the past decade. Only 1 of the 5 nominees was a donor to the governor that appointed them. A couple PACs showed up in the other 4 members but it was all for low amounts (<$500 per PAC, <$1k per member) but I didn't go down that rabbit hole.

As for the 1 nominee that came up as a donor? They donated $65k in the year the governor was elected. This was also the year they were appointed to JMU's BOV. They had not donated to that individual prior to that year, or since that year.

Again, no idea how reliable that site, and certainly not an expert on political giving.

I always laugh at these, no public comment at the meeting, will be in closed session... but if you want to contact this person for more information go for it.

Fascinating location, I know this place. Would be convenient for me to drop in on if it wasn't closed session. Must be a bunch of NoVa located people on the board now.
