Truly an incompetent old dinosaur completely out of touch with the younger generation of football athletes. All future hires need to follow this formula:
-young, up and coming coach who's HUNGRY
-has a lot of experience coaching at a school with a terrible budget
-doesn't see USM as a destination job but a stepping stone job
[quoe]We're a stepping-stone job for HC's. We must embrace it. We'll never be able to pay much for a coach, so we've gotta go after the younger hungry coaches and not the "he's one of us" coaches.
As much as I want hungry coaches that want to move up... so they're going to prove themselves.
I am saying I am willing to dispute #3 on this list.. I have no problem with someone saying "I see USM as a destination job.. and it's going to be a destination job, because.. I want USM to be a national football power..."
Again, anyone who says anything less than that I don't want. You think Boise got to where they did, because they wanted to hire a "stepping stone" job. Hell no! You think UCF made the run, they wanted a stepping stone coach who gave them an undefeated season?
Again, maybe I'm just too much of an optimist in that regard...
Coach makes USM a national power, coach will get money, whether from USM or other schools afterwards..
Again, I'd like to think Monk (if his dream job as an NFL OC hadn't come along), was that type of coach. He never said "this or that was good enough".. he wanted us playing on NYD in NYD bowls.
I'll stick with HarborPointe's argument and I"ll paraphrase it: "You go to acheive Perfection, and you might just catch excellence. You aim for mediocrity.. and you might get $#!...)
I do think the blunder of the "Forgotten year" will never be repeated...

Boise and UCF's coaches both moved on to bigger jobs. I don't get it. Success for a school like USM is the coach leaving for a better job in 3 or 4 years. If we have to fire one in that timeframe we are just digging a bugger hole. Good young coaches don't want to go to a place where the ladt guy couldn't make it. They want to be the next in line at a winner.
