If he leaves, that's a tough blow for them.

There's no way JMU could have seen that coming. Not in a million years. What are they supposed to be, psychic or something???

CofC picks up JR 6’5 Cam Copeland (Douglasville, GA). After playing sparingly as a freshman at North Florida Copeland played his sophomore season at McLennan Community College in Texas where he averaged 13.1 pts/g.

Questions include , would we go after an in conference transfer, would he fit in W&M hard nosed classes, is there a better fit out there, would he be interested in us?

Don't think the Tribe would use two years of a scholarship to get 1 year of play from Wilson

You are right, and I don't think we are looking at guys that need to sit. That said, in this day and age, it doesn't seem like it is difficult to get hardships granted especially with a coaching change--see LJ Owens.

CAA MBB Transfers - 2020
Probably not in our range, but 6'8 Mizzou PF Tray Jackson is entering the transfer portal. Originally a 4* from Michigan, should have 3 years eligibility.

W&M has been in contact with Penn grad transfer Ryan Betley, at least half of the CAA has been as well.

So interesting because we already seem to have a lot of 6-4, 6-5 guards thought Betley is obviously a really good player and you can never have too many of those. I wonder if there is going to be another open scholarship yet that we don't know about because would think it's imperative for us to add a big for next year.

Maybe Fischer knows more about Harvey and Wight that we do. I definitely see Harvey as competent on defense at least.

Coppin State C Brenon Medley Bacon entered the portal. 7'1, all MEAC 3rd team, sit one, play 2. From Baltimore originally, no clue if there's any Tribe interest, but I think he'd be a good addition. Wouldn't help next year since he has to sit out, but would get 2 years after that. 7.5 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 2.1 BPG

I believe he would have played against Jihar in HS. Any little connection helps.

The problem with these group interest tweets about Betley and Gasperini is we don’t know exactly when WM expressed interest - Betley entered the portal on 3/12 according to a VC tweet so it’s possible WM contacted him before Covington committed and eliminated the need for another guard. It was tweeted on 3/19 that WM, among many others, was interested in Gasperini but he entered the portal on 3/11, before the coaches followed any other bigs, so it’s possible that they contacted him on 3/11 or 3/12 and have already moved on from him. I also don’t know what to make of Betley and Gasperini being contacted but not being followed on twitter like Moyer, Griffin, and Komagum are; I would assume the follow would be important but Hamilton and Barnes were never followed before committing while other players were followed. Regardless of how good Harvey and Wight are you still need a third big man at least for depth or you’re one injury away from 6’6 Blair getting serious minutes at the 5, but assuming the Tribe is still interested in Betley here’s some info:

Interested schools: Arizona, Stanford, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Oregon State, Utah State, VCU, Toledo, Colorado State, Hofstra, Drexel, Charleston, Delaware, William & Mary, Northeastern

(03-16-2020 06:03 PM)WillaMary08 Wrote:  Coach Howland and Bryan Griffin (6’8 230 lbs) are now following each other. Griffin is a RS JR transferring from DII Mercy College where he put up big stats:

“ Griffin takes home First Team honors for the second straight season after an impressive season in which he averaged a team-high 19.6 points, 14.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game on a team-high 51.8 percent shooting. He had 12 games with 20 or more points and had 17 games with 10 or more rebounds, including four games with 20 or more rebounds.”

https://mercyathletics.com/news/2020/3/6...l-ecc.aspx

Lots of DI coaches following him (I’ll list them when I get a chance).

Highlights (from 2018-19):
https://youtu.be/ILO4YqEuvl4

Unlike Moyer, Griffin follows back coaches. The ones he has followed back (besides Howland/WM): Boise State, Towson, Wagner, St Bonaventure, Howard, Dallas Baptist, Sam Houston St, Northern Kentucky, Robert Morris, Eastern Michigan, Arkansas St, DePaul, Albany, Tennessee St (x2), ETSU, Louisiana, Radford (x2), Troy, Southern Illinois (x2), Bryant, UT Rio Grande Valley, Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb, Liberty (x2), Charleston Southern, Illinois St, Siena, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, and Mount St Marys.

Coach Howland and Malcolm Bernard started following each other which seemed strange since Bernard graduated Xavier a couple of years ago and has been playing professionally overseas. I scrolled a little through his tweets and saw that he retweeted VC’s tweet about Bryan Griffin entering the transfer portal (only seven people, including Griffin, retweeted that tweet). I can’t figure out what the connection is but Bernard and Griffin do follow each other on twitter.

https://mobile.twitter.com/Malcolmabernard

More and more coaches are following Griffin including Alabama, Stony Brook, Washington St, Ohio, Nichols St, South Alabama, GCU, Coastal Carolina, and San Diego.
