RE: CAA MBB Transfers - 2020
Coach Howland has started following 6’7 Bernie Andre, a grad transfer from Northern Arizona.

Highlights:

Stats:

‘“I just want a little more exposure,” Andre explained. “I’m just weighing my options going into my grad year.”

Arizona, Oregon State, Liberty, Portland, Cal Baptist, Northeastern, Charlotte, Montana, Cal Poly, Grand Canyon, Eastern Michigan, Towson, UT-Chattanooga, Pacific and Florida Gulf Coast have all reached out.’

Tweet from Big Shots Nation (highlight video included):

Kevin Sweeney at @CBB_Central tweets just now:

“ American grad transfer Mark Gasperini tells me he has heard from Wake Forest, Hawaii, UMass, Northeastern, Marquette, Colorado State, William and Mary, Delaware, and Cal Baptist. 6-10 big man averaged 9 points and 5 rebounds per game this season for the Eagles.“

This tweet only lists 9 schools as opposed to the 15 NEBallAcademy tweeted last week. I don’t know if that is an actual narrowing down of schools or simply an incomplete list.

CAA MBB Transfers - 2020
My top choice would be D2 transfer big Bryan Griffin. He has the right blending of athleticism and skill to be a real impact player for us and a difference maker in the CAA. In fact, with Griffin in the fold, I'd feel pretty comfortable placing us as a top 4 CAA team heading into the season.
Other than a Twitter follow, I'm not sure how much we are involved though.

I like Gasperini, but I feel like he is more of a competent place holder than a difference maker. Perhaps that is enough in the big-starved CAA. Griffin is no Nathan, but he is a big time rebounder and a physical attacker of the rim.

Andre hasn’t followed Howland back but he did like a graphic produced by NCAA Now listing some of the schools interested in Andre and WM is included. It’s a slightly different mix of schools than the ones listed in the quoted post: WM, Arizona, Missouri, Kent St, CofC, Hofstra, Iona, Temple, Oregon St, Drake, Charlotte, FIU, VCU, and a “P” logo I don’t recognize (sorry).

Sports reporter @lance_hartz tweets:

“ After talking with both Bernie Andre and Cameron Satterwhite, seems like there is definitely no hard feelings between the two and NAU/Shane Burcar.

Both mentioned, essentially, they feel they can do more elsewhere. A change of scenery at a, maybe, bigger program seems likely.”

Seems like there's only a couple of those schools that would be "more exposure".

That's where the transfer portal gets tough for a school like us. Power conference teams have shown they're willing to take flyers on these guys since it's only a 1 year commitment. Tough for us to out recruit a Big East School

You are exactly correct. That's why it's so important to not rely on a grad transfer to start for your team. We had a real good pipeline of talent with Shaver. We need to start over and build to fit Fischer's scheme now. It will take a couple years

The father of Ian Carter (6’7 220 senior at Dartmouth) just started following a bunch of Tribe players and coaches with one player following back. I don’t see Carter in the transfer portal but he just finished his senior year and he missed his sophomore year so that in the Ivy means a grad transfer.

CAA MBB Transfers - 2020
Hopefully it's just wishful thinking from dad. He, frankly, isn't worthy of the scholarship.
His career overview :
- played in 60 games with 1 start.
- averaged 9.5 minutes/game
- 2.83 ppg / 1.86 rebs / 44% Fg / 19% 3fg

Other than another practice body, I'm not sure what he actually brings. I guess he could do the Tyler Hamilton role in providing leadership and gritty play. He won't help in scoring on a team in need of guys to fill the scoring void.

Perhaps a true difference making grad is beyond our reach. They seem to get gobbled up by the big boys.

I agree 100%. We have a half dozen players at his position/size. We don't need practice bodies. The only way I do this is if it is like Chris Clark and he's a walk on.

Rivals analyst Corey Evans, in a tweet when Carter committed to Dartmouth, called Carter a stretch-4:

“ Dartmouth got itself a steal! Ian Carter can play. Stretch 4 with good stroke and activity levels at the rim. Great get for the Ivy program”
