RE: NMSU's Shawn Williams is Eligible
Shawn Williams was also...

2018 AAC Rookie of the Year
2018 The American All-Rookie Team
2018 Kyle Macy Freshman All-American Team

The addition of Shawn Williams (6'1, 175-lbs, Jr.) gives NMSU a interchangeable "scoring" shooting guard with Terrell Brown (6'1, 165-lbs, Sr.). Williams has not been as efficient a 3-pt. shooter as Brown but Williams hit 70 threes for East Carolina last season; Brown hit 66 for NMSU. With the emergence of Trev Queen and adding Williams, NMSU should be pretty stout on the perimeter. Now, we just needs our big men to fill the void of Eli Chuha. Expect Ivan to be more aggressive this season.

Watched the promo video. Whoever created it did not really demonstrate whether Shawn Williams has an all around game. Looks like he can shoot jump shots. But can he drive to the basket? Can he pass? Can he rebound? Can he play defense? If so, congrats to the Aggies! Hard to tell from this video though.

If Chris Jans puts Williams on the court, you can bet Williams will play defense, play team high IQ basketball, and rebound. Jans doesn't play one dimensional players.

RE: NMSU's Shawn Williams is Eligible
I mentioned this on the Aggie board but one thing I like about Shown Williams' perimeter game is his shot release. NMSU has Terrell Brown; who is a very good three point shooter. But he has a set shot release with very little lift; which means it can be defended by bigger longer guards (the type a P5 programs), if they can stay close to Brown. Fortunately for NMSU, Brown has real deep range, a fairly quick release, and is lightening quick on the dribble drive.

Shawn Williams gives NMSU another dynamic from the perimeter. He is a legit three point "jump' shooter; as illustrated in the video above. He can shoot it off the bounce at the apex of his jump; which makes him much more difficult to defend in tight perimeter coverage.

Now admittedly, Brown appears to have a more complete game from offense to defense. But Williams gives Jans another option in different game situations. Williams also give NMSU real good FT shooting (87.8% last season). So, he is not a player the opposition wants to foul.

Williams is history. Wish him the best but glad he's gone. His 3 point shot was awful for the Aggies and his defense sucked.
