RE: Hawaii and San Diego State making statements for PAC 12 invites
Fourth year in a row that Oregon state has lost to a MW school. They were underdogs in all four games. They did cover the 7 point spread vs Hawaii.

Hawaii and San Diego State making statements for PAC 12 invites
(09-09-2019 09:01 AM)bluesox Wrote:  Hawaii having a schedule alliance with the pac 12 and mwc instead of being a mwc conference football member could work. Play 4 pac 12 and 6 mwc schools per year, for 10 games annually. Than mwc could invite UTEP for full membership. You could also give BYU the same schedule alliance deal

The MWC will never, never give BYU a deal like that. There is way too much animosity for that to even be considered. Why would they want UTEP, their football is terrible and the hoops is almost as bad. Hawaii is finally getting decent again and everyone is p,eased with the arrangements,

Week 1 Hawaii beats Arizona 45 to 38

Week 2 Hawaii beats Oregon State 31 to 28 and San Diego State beats UCLA 23 to 14

At the moment, Hawaii has at least 10 games scheduled against the PAC 12 through 2027. San Diego State has at least 15 games scheduled against the PAC 12 through 2028.

It looks like they are the front runners for invites to the PAC 14.

What a joke. Pac-12 schools schedule MWC schools to home-and-home games as matter of convenience. ALL PAC-12 SCHOOLS PLAY HOME-AND-HOME GAMES WITH MWC SCHOOLS. It does not mean that you want to add them to the Pac-12. These schools would add zero dollars to the Pac-12 TV contracts and that is the only thing that will matter when it comes to any Pac-12 expansion.

I disagree that they would add zero dollars to the Pac-12.

SDSU and Hawai'i each have large alumni bases. Larger than a lot of PAC-12 schools.

San Diego and Hawai'i are also new markets for the PAC-12. They're not the largest markets, but San Diego is larger than Utah. And Hawai'i would make it a true Pacific conference, with more potential interest from the Asian markets that the academically elite PAC schools are eager to tap.

What are they worth to the MWC? The current MWC TV deal is worth $18 million annually. ESPN and Fox are not going to care about these two markets. It is about the money. San Diego is 120 miles from LA. Is that really a "new market?" Do you really think UCLA and USC want San Diego State in the Pac-12? San Diego is a beautiful city and great place to live, but that doesn't mean they belong in the Pac-12. Hawaii belongs in the Big West.

Houston is 90 miles from Beaumont. That's a completely different world. No one in Beaumont aside from UH alums root for Houston athletics and even the pro sports teams aren't a slam dunk.

Unless you share a media market or a very common bond (like Boston and the surrounding states or Atlanta and much of the South), then even 50 miles away can be and usually is a different market.

Just pair youselves with UCSD and you got your golden ticket.

The same SDSU team that only scored 6 points against Weber State? Pass.

If the Pac-12 really wanted to expand out of the MWC, the most lucrative options are probably Hawaii and UNLV.

If you're UNLV or BYU, you're praying for the B1G to steal Colorado.

While Colorado is a geographic misfit in the Pac-12 make no mistake about it Boulder is a perfect cultural fit for the Pac-12.

What I’m praying for is the Big 12 to ditch WVU and steal USC, Arizona and Arizona State.

That would definitely require divine intervention.

I know the Golden Triangle area well. I went to two years of high school down there. My sister graduated from Lamar. I still have family there, as well as in the Houston area. If you live down in the Golden Triangle, you probably root for the Astros, Rockets and Texans. There are a lot of Dallas Cowboy fans in the area as well. For college sports, it is UT and Texas A&M, maybe Lamar. High school football is very big there.

In San Diego, you have the Padres and San Diego State. The Lakers are popular in San Diego. Fox Sports San Diego carries all of the Anaheim Ducks games, as well as Clipper games. The Angels are blacked out in San Diego because of the Padres. There are still some Charger fans left in San Diego.

There are Pac-12 alumni all throughout San Diego. There is no reason to bring San Diego State into the Pac-12. Schools like USC and UCLA recruit the San Diego area. They don't want the additional competition. As a MWC school, they are not really competition for an athlete. They like it that way.

Given the political climate out west in Academia BYU is probably needing to hope for the Big 12 to expand
