RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Released
I may miss 1 game every 2 years. We go regardless of the opponent. Saying that, the avg fan will show up if.... the opponent is a big name, or if the team is "hot" and beating the doors off everyone. Lately, neither has happened. Playing big opponents at home and getting hammered will discourage the avg fan. Playing cupcakes at home discourages the avg fan, unless you score 100 consistently and hold them to 50. If we play this type of schedule, we should be running the table at home. We aren't and haven't had a product on the floor the past couple years that could. Buzzer beaters vs Troy and nail-biters against UNA aren't going to attract fans until our team starts to win consistently and by a large margin. Just my $0.02 and it's probably overpriced at that. :)

We also told Pearl to pound sand due to his ridiculous demands. We tried to schedule Georgia a home and home and they backed off not us. I have no problem playing any in state school. Duquesne game is one day before Gasparilla bowl and if we get to chose will most likely play in that bowl against aac opponent.

#5. Totally agree. It’s time we stop whining and show up to games. Give these kids a home court advantage. I’ll be there to watch UAB. Time to stop bitching and show up to games.

I'll be at the ODU game on Jan. 4, which is the closest game to me this year.

I'm at every game I can no matter the crapiness of the opponent, but I'm not going to stop complaining when it is deserved. Attendance is never going to improve until the coaches and AD do what's necessary. The average Birminghamian is NOT going to spend good money to watch what should be, but likely won't be lopsided games against poorly thought of opponents.

I've come to the conclusion that this staff is in way over their heads both on and off the court. Let's hear the story on how they blew "sure thing" games against Georgia Tech and Rutgers and ended up with Alabama State and Duquesne.

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Released
I live in Huntsville. I would happily drive down to watch as many games as I could if it were worth my time. This schedule shows the coach and AD don’t care what we want, so why am I going to waste my time and money making a long night out of a game to see us play a non d1 or swac school? Call me whatever the hell you want, I won’t do it. Put some better schools on the schedule and I’ll show up.(and I don’t need p5 schools, more SFA type games work fine for me) I make it to almost every football home game and will continue to do so because they have done what we as fans asked. Basketball has done less and less every year.

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Released
I'll be at the games with my season tickets regardless, but the home schedule outside of Memphis is garbage. I understand it's difficult to get P5 teams at home, but we need to start doing 2 for 1's to get that one home game. Also, other mid-majors are in the same boat with the P5 games - I don't understand why we can't coordinate with them and do home and homes with schools like Ga St, Belmont, Davidson, Murray St, etc.

Again, I'll show up no matter who we're playing but I'm in the minority. If we want to spark interest with the avg person around Birmingham (or even hype games up to students) it's not going to happen with home schedules like these. Other than the Memphis game, this is how we end up with 2,500 at the OOC home games.

I hope you made sure to let them know why too. It's the same tired excuses every year. If it isn't working, try something else.

I understand the hatred that surrounds Pearl on this board, but if Auburn was willing to continue that series we should've considered whatever they decided to offer us. We are in no position to tell them to pound sand, and the only thing we are better at right now is not cheating. It was a good series, and well attended for both schools.

Bottom line is our coach and AD should be on the phone right now calling every decent mid major in the region working on games for next year. I absolutely refuse to believe that all of us get the run around from the big boys, yet none of us can figure out how to work H&H's out with one another.

I did one better because I wanted to continue my support, I told them after last season. I purchased 4 season tickets last year only went to maybe 2 non-conference games. I understand the concept of supporting the program, however, the AD and Head Basketball Coach both make way more than I do and they need to do a better job if they want my money. UAB hands are not tied in basketball scheduling like it was in football fundraising, so this is not a 'support the program because the BOT is against us' type issue.

There are 50-75 decent programs that would probably schedule us home and home, but you know what the fear is... that we will lose. So let's schedule a bunch of patsies and claim another 20 win season!!!! When your conference schedule is watered down... there is no reason for Thomas, Montevallo, UNA or some of these other teams to be on the schedule. This schedule is not worth $1K for me and my family.

Side Note... the priority seating renewal deadline to me is bizarre. The renewal deadline is always before the schedule comes out. For good reason I suppose.

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Released
It seems that more and more G5 schools are demanding H&H contracts in both MBB and FB with high buyout fees for cancelling later games. This may be a complication to scheduling some highly desirable programs in both sports. Boise State for instance has stated that they feel they have earned the status in FB to demand H&H with P5 schools while the top P5 schools only want one way schedules with all G5 teams always coming to their campus (since 1950, how many times has Bama played USM and how many of those were in Hattiesburg?).

This has always been a gripe of mine. I have to pay my money before seeing the schedule, all while seeing countless other schools release their schedules earlier. I'm a 10 year season ticket holder, but like you, I am getting tired of watching farm league basketball in our OOC games.

Same for me. I'm 2 hours away and make it to all the football games I can, but basketball doesn't have any draw for me with this schedule.

It may be something to get used to when UAB is finally able to charge a Premium for priority seating at the new BJCC Protective Stadium. To start with, I expect UAB FB to charge about the same amount of premium as now charged for midcourt seating at Bartow Arena.

I guess it's because I'm a newer fan but I'm pretty excited about this schedule. I wish Jax State, Samford, or South would have taken the place of Thomas, but that's probably my only criticism. They've basically scheduled everyone else with a basketball program, why not one of the 3 that are all most likely to be KenPom top-100 squads this season?

Lamar, Memphis & Utah Valley should all be better than anyone UAB has had at home in a few years.

So the Memphis game, the biggest home game of the year is the same day as the Football Championship game? I sure hope they play them far apart in timeframes to not even come close to overlapping, even more if we are hosting the Champ game.

Invalid. Non-conference football opponents are normally determined more than one year in advance, due to there being, at most, four non-conference games.

Navy now only has one non-conference game to play with each season.

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Released
I honestly wish that people would stop saying "stop whining" because it isn't that. It's people stating their dissatisfaction with the product that is either being put on the court or the field. This is a business, fans deserves a right to a good product because we're paying our hard earned money to see it. Throwing away money at a bad product, college or professional isn't an option for all of us.

If you want to invest in a bad product then by all means do so. Don't get mad at the fans that will not do the same. Or if they do spend their money and the product sucks, don't get mad when they complain about said sucky product.

That said, this home pre-conference schedules sucks. Someone in the promotion department better be figuring out some type of way to get the community more interest in UAB Basketball because this schedule alone isn't going to do it. And if the team struggles with this schedule before conference play you'll be hearing crickets at the arena.

I'm just tired of folks not doing their jobs. Scheduling the Memphis game on December 7 at 1pm shows they could care less about the UAB fans.

Run the table through cupcake city and Upset one or two of the big boys and it will change things tremendously.
