RE: Who Here was Concerned...
About the expectation for the current football season. Well I was.
Concerned about the overall future of UC football and basketball, well no.
This season scared me before last year when i looked at who was on the schedule. Then it was made worse when the order of opponents was released. 7 to 8 wins a is good season. 9 or more is top 25 worthy. It’s just brutal with how young this team combined with early season injuries.

I wasn't concerned about it. OSU 3RD STring is rated higher than UC's first String. We got shoved all over the field. Game is over and let's win the rest of them. Sure I t's tougher without some of our best players injured but it's a good way to get playing time for the others to build upon.

I mean, I picked OSU to win by 3 TDs, and really, that's the result that should've happened had our receiver caught a ball that hit him in the chest and our RB not put a ball on the ground and inch away from the endzone.
Also, I had us a 8-4 before the season, so this is about right. I have always felt that our "year" was next year, not this year.

The bigger challenge for UC fans this year will be to keep expectations in check as LF continues to build a program. I think people have dismissed what studs Broughton and Copeland were, how great the cobbled together offensive line played, how weak the schedule was, and how frickin’ lucky we got in several of those close games. Too much KOOLAID was being passed around. Bearcatman is right 8-4 would be a helluva season. Anything more is wow.

RE: Who Here was Concerned...
It was one game against a likely CFP team, at least if they keep playing like they have early in the season. Let’s not overreact to it.
I will say that I’ve mentioned multiple times that it’s likely we are improved this year but end up with a worse record. We are still young at some key positions and play a much more difficult schedule. Why I picked us to win 7-8 games in the voting thread.
The good news is we are still headed in the right direction and if the coaching staff uses the game last week correctly it will help our players improve for the rest of their college careers.

I agree. I now believe that Vegas was spot on with UC over/under 7 1/2. I could easily see us at 8-4 or 7-5. How well we respond this week will tell a lot to that end. Lay an egg against Miami and the result of the overall season will be much worse.

I'm hoping the coaching staff learned from this debacle. CLF said some of the right things afterwards about not having them properly prepared. I feel that he attempted to downplay the emotions of the game too much and the team wasn't emotionally ready.
I highly doubt that happens against miami.

It also didn’t help matters that we lost our best defensive player before the first game. That is going to have a larger impact than anyone realized IMO.
Still, we should all remain positive as CLF has this program moving in the right direction. An 8-4 season, with a relatively young team, would still be a great accomplishment and another sign that we are building something great here.
We continue to recruit well, and as long as we are successful on the field we will continue to chip away at the mid tier P5 teams on the recruiting trail. Eventually we will have our break out season when things align for us. Just have to be patient and continue building.

Good summation of the past week and for a hopeful future. I've said all along that Copeland and Broughton were big losses for the defense. I believe they're both still on NFL rosters. Wiggins was a game changer last season too and a devastating loss for 2019.
That osu hurricane in Columbus last Saturday blew the house down. This Saturday, UC has to begin rebuilding the season one brick at a time--one game at a time. Eight wins and a bowl maintain forward progress in my mind.

Yep, my guess is when you schedule Oklahoma to a home and home you didn't plan on giving away tix. However, in Cali they give a lot of stuff away so it fits with the mantra.

One can only hope they're prepared for the pace and ugliness of the basketball they're about to get this winter...

It's interesting that the UC game there was pretty full.

Eh, not really. I was there maybe the way the cameras were facing but there were tons of empty seats there. In UCLAs defense the Rose Bowl is way out of the way and there are tons of other things to. I see no reason any casual fan would drive out to the Rose Bowl to watch UCLA.
