Yes. The following are the records of each conference in games against FBS only.

Conf.....W....L....%.........P5W..P5L

B1G.....18...3... .857.......2......2
ACC.....10...5... .667.......2......4
B12.......6...3... .667.......1......2
SEC.....13...7... .650.......5......3
PAC.......9...6... .600.......2......2
MWC.....8...7... .533.......6......5
AAC......7...8... .467.......2......8
SBC......5...8... .385.......2......5
MAC......1..13... .071......0.....12
USA......1..14... .067......0......8

I ask you. Does anyone seriously think the ACC is the second best conference in the FBS?

But at a combined 7-35, I think it's fair to say the bottom 3 conferences really aren't in the same league as the others. That's a big enough sample that our opinions aren't likely to change much as the season goes on.

In your stats are you omitting conference games? That would skew a conference’s stats closer to .500

That's funny! It should just read, "Here are the degrees of likelihood that a school makes the CFP. You will note that ESPN has a larger stake in those on the left (which are more likely to make it) and a lesser stake in those on the right (which are less likely to make it). Of course we wish to issue a statement that we are wholly un-involved with the selection process, except that we paid a boat load of money for it."

Personally speaking I don't share their assessment of Ohio State. I think they are more likely to make it.

Ohio St has to hope the division does well in their remaining big OOC games. Michigan St with Arizona St, Penn St with Pittsburgh, and Michigan with Notre Dame. Their OOC schedule is very weak this year. Yeah Alabama has just as bad of an OOC schedule as they do- but their division mates have for instance already gotten wins over Oregon and Texas.... Games with Auburn and LSU are going to mean more than that as a result.

I agree with you but I just don't think an undefeated Ohio State, or a 1 loss Ohio State (provided it wasn't a horrible loss like Purdue) gets left out due to SOS. Too many eyeballs and the Mouse knows that.

RE: The Big 10 is the best conference so far
Just being realistic, I don't think that ND is a playoff contender this season.

I think it more likely a 9-3 team. I think that Georgia will beat ND, it is very possible that Southern Cal and Michigan may as well. Virginia is a dark horse win candidate also.

ND lost too much experienced talent from last year. I thought ND might go 10-2 before the season started. Now, 9-3 (or even 8-4) seems more likely to me.

For one thing, injuries to key offensive performers (RB Jafar Armstrong, WR Michael Young and TE Cole Kmet) have limited ND's offensive talent and output.

For another, ND's DT's and LB's are inexperienced and a step down from last year. We shall see.

For those keeping score for the Big Ten, the following is a list of the scalps they have collected so far.

ACC: Syracuse
SEC: Vanderbilt
AAC: Tulsa, South Florida, Cincinnati, Connecticut
MWC: Fresno St
MAC: Ball State, Akron, Miami (O), Buffalo, Western Michigan, Central Michigan
CUSA: Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee
SBC: South Alabama
Indy: Army, Massachusetts

The bolded teams were beaten by Maryland, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan respectively.

I take that back, something has already been decided this year. I now watch "Big Noon Kickoff" or "BTN Tailgate" over college gameday. Big Noon Kickoff has an investment in the Big 10 yet they still discuss all the other conferences. Imagine that, ESPN, there are actually other conferences out there. No disrespect to our friends in the Southeast, the topics just get old real quick!

Also, anybody who thinks hiring Keith Olbermann is a good business decision has totally lost me as a viewer.

Peace!

The only 'scalp' that is remotely impressive on that list is Syracuse. And Syracuse may have been overrated.

Yup. Vandy also lost their QB and OC from a team that wasn’t all that strong defensively last fall.

Yes, and don't get me wrong. I'm not saying conference strength should only be determined by the LSU vs Texas matchups. All the games have to count, so Purdue beating Vandy is something. But it still isn't much of a 'scalp' the way we think about that.

And, it's a really soft list as far as P5 is concerned. The vast bulk of their wins have been against G5.

The B1G is 1-0 vs the SEC, 1-0 vs the ACC, 0-0 vs the Big 12, and 0-2 vs the PAC.

So that's just 2-2 overall vs the other P5.

And they don't have many P5 games left. By my count, just six - MSU vs AZST, Pitt vs Penn State, Purdue vs TCU and Iowa vs Iowa State this weekend, Rutgers vs BC the next, and then Michigan vs Notre Dame down the road.

That's 10 total games vs P5 all season. Heck, the SEC, which seems to get maligned for its scheduling a lot, has already played 8 such games.

I agree with you. I love Southeastern football, but I'm way past sick of ESPN. It's more of a brooding resentment now! We watch our games but turn their annoying imbecilic talking heads off. This past week Auburn celebrated Rod Bramblett Day. That was the celebration of the life of our Radio Voice and his wife who were killed in a tragic car accident this past Spring. One of the ESPN announcers was named Rod and they were so ill informed of the events of the Game that he and his cohort spent time talking about why the Auburn people would be doing this for him. They apologized at halftime when they figured out what was happening, and when they rebroadcast the game they edited all of that conversation out.

ESPN may, and does, push the SEC hard, but their announcers routinely get the teams names wrong, routinely mispronounce local named aspects of the campus, and this bonehead mistake which illustrates their crappy work performance just took it over the top. We were listening to them on this night because of the celebration of the Bramblett's lives. How could they possibly have been so lazy as to miss why Auburn people were wearing white with white shakers instead of our normal Orange and Blue?

I'll be glad when some other company forces this bloated Disney crap to close. Competition in game carriage is welcomed and would be healthy for the game period.

With virtually every FBS game being broadcast these days, it's clear that not all of them are going to have a-list announcing teams. Or even b-list. But ESPN?

If you're a MAC school they spend half the game talking about their favorite upcoming game between bluebloods instead of announcing the game that's actually happening.

In fairness to the AAC, they have had some tough matchups. AAC teams have played two top-5 teams (Oklahoma and Ohio State) and a top-15 team (Wisconsin). No other G5 have done that.

Bottom line is, even the best conference can look bad if the matchups are bad. I mean, if every week for four weeks, Ole Miss, Vandy, Arkansas, and South Carolina played Clemson, Ohio State, USC, and Oklahoma, the SEC would go 0-4 each week, and someone could say "HaHa! The SEC is 0-16 against other P5, they are the worst!". Which would be highly misleading, because the matchups were the bottom of the SEC vs the top of the other conferences.

So the matchups have to be "fair". Now I agree, Cincy and Houston were projected to be top AAC teams, so their losses to Oklahoma and Ohio State are fair when evaluating them as a "P" league (they clearly aren't). But you can't use those losses to say that means they are a bad "G" league. We'd have to see how the best MW, SB, etc. teams did against the same competition.

As the season progresses I think we are going to see that Army and Fresno St are pretty good this year. After Miami (FL), I think Fresno St is the second best winless team in the nation and their talent is not reflected in their record as they started with two P5s to open the season.

The SEC is definitely tiered this year:

Tier 1: UF, UGA, Bama, Aub, LSU
Tier 2: TAMU, UK, Miss St
Tier 3: Ark, Ole Miss, Tenn, S Car, Vandy, Mizzou

Tier 1 is pretty good but tier 3 is going to be really bad.

I would put Auburn and Florida in Tier 2. I don't think those two schools are clearly better than the other Tier 2 schools you listed but I do believe they are inferior to UGA, Bama, and LSU.

Lot of chest pumping on the Big 10.. Let's put out there the teams and opponents thus far:

Minnesota vs South Dakota St- Minnesota barely won against what a D2 school
MSU vs Tulsa-- MSU wins.. Should win it's an AAC school not ACC/SEC/PAC
Wiscy beat USF- Again AAC school
Rutgers beat UMass.. When was the last time UMass was relevant in football?
Nevada beat Purdue.. A MWC school beat Purdue
Penn State beat the powerhouse known as Idaho
Indiana beat Ball State
Maryland destroyed Howard
OSU beat the Fighting Kiffins who've only had a good season in Kiffin's first year
Illi beat Akron
Nebraska beat USA
Stanford beat Northwestern
Michigan beat MTSU
Iowa over Miami OH

Not a strong argument thus far.. SEC wasn't either, it was Week 1

Week 2
Penn State beat Buffalo after struggling the first half
Maryland destroyed Syracuse
Michigan barely escaped Army
OSU destroyed AAC powerhouse Cincy.. Again AAC
Purdue beat the world class Vandy Commodores
Iowa blanked Rutgers
Wiscy beat CMU.. A MAC school
Colorado beat Nebraska
Illi barely beat UConn.. AAC
Indiana beat EIU, a D2 school
MSU beat another MAC school
Minnesota barely got by Fresno.

This is not looking like an impressive resume.. The SEC isn't better.

lol, the SEC only has probably the 2 most impressive wins of the year in Auburn over Oregon and LSU over Texas. But yeah.... forget that small little detail.

OSU destroyed AAC powerhouse Cincy.. Again AAC
Purdue beat the world class Vandy Commodores
Iowa blanked Rutgers
Wiscy beat CMU.. A MAC school
Colorado beat Nebraska
Illi barely beat UConn.. AAC
Indiana beat EIU, a D2 school
MSU beat another MAC school
Minnesota barely got by Fresno.

This is not looking like an impressive resume.. The SEC isn't better.

lol, the SEC only has probably the 2 most impressive wins of the year in Auburn over Oregon and LSU over Texas. But yeah.... forget that small little detail.
You must've missed the bolded parts.. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but to claim the B1G is the greatest show on turf right now is a little of an overstatement... I live down the road from Beaver Stadium.. I drive by it every day on my way to work on campus... I hear what the locals say.. Declaring Big 10 king is premature.
