Some thoughts on Utah
This board and maybe the coaching staff underestimated Tyler Huntley's passing ability. Did not realize Huntley, Moss and Simpkins all came from the same class at Hallandale H.S. in Miami.

Yds per passing attempt for Huskies was 7.6 (not bad) but yds per running attempt was only 2.7. That needs to improve!

Richardson hopefully, is the real deal.

Why do the Huskies get screwed on (non) targeting calls?

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. Thanks to the Ute fan on their message board for streaming the game.

Worst part about that BS targeting call is we will be missing Mykelti for the first half of next weeks game. How is it that we always get screwed on these?

We have to get the run game going. Maybe a little is tied to the O-line gelling. Utah is a stout D but 16 rushes from your top 2 backs just isn't enough.

Side note, 2 games and Robinson hasn't done squat at WR. Theres talent on the bench. Use him or replace him.

Agreed with Robinson. I saw Toure get some reps yesterday. I’m also impressed with Michael Love’s elusiveness. He could be a great slot receiver going forward

The five things learned in the Utah game article are correct observations:

Our run defense looks even better after Illinois State had 353 rushing yards (Robinson had 178 yards) in a 42-14 win over Morehead State. We held them to 51 yards and Robinson to 16 yards.

I think our pass D will improve, including the pass rush, as the season progresses.

RE: Some thoughts on Utah
Utah played really well yesterday. Not sure if we came out hot or they started slow but Utah is a very good football team. I don't see us playing another team even close to their caliber. Tyler Huntley is not viewed as a great QB but he played amazing yesterday. And Moss is a beast. Their defense is viewed as one of the best in college football.

We hung in there yesterday against a very solid Utah team. That targeting call was the nail in the coffin for us. On to Nebraska.

Any news on Leroy, Pugh, or any other injuries??

At least in this game, Bowers didn't have time to go through his progressions, so I am not sure anyone else would do better there. I have some high hopes for him, so I would like to see him get time to develop on the field unless he is truly making mistakes.

I hope the defensive line is at a place where NIU can play "straight up" against Nebraska. Selling out to stop the run was probably a must against Utah, but for Nebraska to be a winnable game, NIU can't concede parts of the field like they did against Utah.

RE: Some thoughts on Utah
I was very impressed by Bowers. He hung in there, created a little extra time and found guys open while delivering pretty accurate balls.

Your D-line is very stout, and did a good job with Moss and the run game in general.

I believe you are correct about Huntley, the Utah media has been calling him the 3rd best QB in the state, which is garbage, he can throw, he's fast and generally makes good decisions.

Good luck moving forward, I expect you to show very well against the Huskers, and in your conference.

Oh, and yes, the targeting call was garbage, technically it was probably targeting, but the rule is just garbage. I don't know what the defender can do when he's setting up to tackle and the offensive player goes low and essentially initiated the head to head contact. Utah has been hosed by targeting calls over and again the past few seasons, your frustration is not lost on any Utah fan.

Morehead State is a non-scholarship program. It’s a glorified D3 team.

Our run game will not improve unless the offensive line shows some athletic ability. We are not showing any strength, speed, skill, or technique. I see our OL basically getting their asses handed to them by Illinois State and Utah. I think it's time to start looking to get the younger kids into the games and see if they can compete better than what the starters are showing right now.

It is very difficult for 18 and 19 year old boys who have not had significant time in a college weight training and nutrition program to compete against 22 and 23 year old young men.

Not true. If they have the skill they’ll compete better than what our O-line has been doing the first two games.

There goes our shot at the national championship! 03-weeping

The Huskies lost by 18 to a team that was ranked #13. That is actually better than was expected. It could be more of the same next week as Nebraska is ranked too. Or at least they were. There may be hope. Go Huskies!
