Until and unless we get better OLine play we will continue to be overmatched by these bigger programs. Nebrask 31 NIU 13

I don’t like these polls, predictions, and game thread as one thread. Anyone else feel the same?

I am not a fan of these combo threads either. Of course, this one is different than the Utah "season opener" combo thread. Illinois State is a good team and that was a real game. BTW ISU is currently # 12 in the FCS rankings; I hope they keep winning and move up further, as that helps our SOS.

On to better things. I see that Nebraska's D line coach was with Bowers at Cal. in 2017 and 2018.

https://www.omaha.com/huskers/football/h...175ea.html

I don't think this gives that coach (and therefore, Nebraska) "special insight" into Bowers. Other than some knowledge of possible nuances that might not be seen on game films, I don't see this not unusual scenario of a coach having been on the same team with a player giving much of an advantage.

We are one of the four games that made the upset watch on one site:

https://thebiglead.com/2019/09/10/colleg...e-florida/

Many I have seen think that Nebraska wants revenge for 2017 and being pissed about blowing a 17 point lead last week means they will come out smoking. Perhaps; but too much emotion can backfire, and those things won't last long after the game starts.

Yeah. If we can hang on and stay in the game at the half we have a chance in the second half... But I don’t see it happening. Nebraska will get plenty of pressure on Bowers without blitzing and stuff the run with their base defense. That’s going to leave very little room for receivers to operate and very little time for Bowers.

Yup. A couple of "emotional" personal fouls and and a couple of big plays can deflate the revenge factor real fast.

In the Colorado game Nebraska's D is the first half was great, but in the second half they were susceptible to big plays. Which one do we get and for how much of the game? I see the opportunity for Bowers to Tears, Richie and others for some big plays. I would think the O coaches watched what Colorado did in the second half on O (as well as S. Alabama that scored 21 points on Nebraska in week 1) and we will see similar plays and schemes.

I agree but Nebraska will be adjusting as well. But they have size, strength, sped, and skill on their side as far as their D-line is concerned.

Odd that Robinson is the starter with Tears behind him. I am only imagine this is for blocking purposes specific to this game or some kind of discipline. Idk.

It was listed the same last week, but, Tears did, in fact, start.

RE: * * * O F F I C I A L * * * Nebraska Predictions, Game Thread and Everything Else
Here are 2 previews of the game. One predicts Nebraska by 11 and to the other by 9.

https://www.hustlebelt.com/niu-huskies/2...ornhuskers

https://collegefootballnews.com/2019/09/...eview-2019

It is interesting that of the 55 points Nebraska has given up in 2 games, 48 were after half time. I am not sure what the explanations for this is, but it makes me feel very good about our chances if it is close or at least we are within striking distance at half time.

Nebraska has good RBs, but our D can handle these and any other RBs as they have already shown; we need to watch for the one RB who is second on their team in receiving yards! Nebraska’s QB (Adrian Martinez) is a dual-threat who can gain yards and score points with both his feet and arm. While he only had 8 picks last year, he already has 2 this year (as does Bowers). He is a fumbler; he lost 2 of 3 of his fumbles against Colorado and had the second-most fumbles of any player last season.

https://www.omaha.com/huskers/football/h...d833b.html

Nebraska is susceptible to big plays. I see Bowers having a big day, we win the turnover battle, and Bill Baker gets to happily say good bye Lincoln when the Huskies against upset the Huskers, with a final score of:

Huskies: 27
Huskers: 24

Nebraska 31
NIU 21

I doubt we have 2 pick sixes, but our QB and offensive play calling will be much better. As was said before, I hope our O-line is improved. I think Harbison and Tears will have good games.

They will definitely be keying in on Tears this game especially since he torched them 2 years ago with a big play and had one last week vs Utah. Might see Richie get some more throws and the TE’s being worked in a lot. I like the idea of getting Michael Love the ball more in space. This kid can make people miss.

We watched a good deal of the Col/NE in SLC. Their pass def blows. They didn't give up much rushing yards/attempt, but that seems to open the pass.

Keep mixing it up and the norm, don't turn ball over. If NIU can run for 100 yards they should be in the game. Run for 150 or so, pass for 225 they should win.

24-21 HUSK.....IES

Unless he teaches them how to stop the Bower TD flip.
