Maybe Next Year But...
Gonna have to fix some basic things like kicking, fumbles, untimely penalties. The talent and experience is not there this year, and the schedule is much better.

This is a team that is going to be strong against middlin’ to decent teams but is just not going to compete against top squads. Lots of blue collar good players but not enough difference makers on either side of the ball. As fans we get caught in an echo chamber at times and start believing one another.

Just wait until October when we hear there are guys in basketball practice nobody can cover. Lol.

The G5 is about offense and scoring points. Our offensive schemes are still too much 1990’s. The staff can recruit, but they really fall flat on the X’s And O’s.

Vogt will definitely be getting Hakeem Olajowan comparisons lol

Yep. If you are going to be at such a major disadvantage in the trenches, you have to spread em out, and have speed.

Brian Kelly is an unredeemable jerk but he definitely knew that coaching absolute. Nearly impossible to compete against more talent unless you are run some oddball outmoded system like the veer or are trying to hang half a hundred every game.

The kicking situation is at high school level. Maybe JV level. That FG today would have hit a lineman if it wasn’t blocked.

It’s one game against a top team. Not gonna over react to it. I expected a loss coming in.

Sure there are things that need fixed, but we can still have a successful year and continue to build on the foundation of what Fickell and co have started.

UC needs an open trial for kickers. Perhaps a women from the soccer team could do better.

Yeah, Fickell's running an old school system with 44th ranked recruiting classes. Not a bad strategy to continually put out winning seasons with a bowl win, but I do wonder how long it is before we start talking about the Military Bowl as our ceiling.

Dantonio was the same way. Kelly came in, took good players, and found a system that made the team elite. Idk. Watching CFB its a little obvious that the top 5 programs are separating themselves, isn't it? Bama is dominating the SEC. Clemson the ACC. OSU the big 10. It's like European soccer.

BK's team were not elite. He won a lot of games, and a lot of close games. I agree about elite teams...maybe the top 7 IDK.

Offense should be much better by the end year and over the next couple of seasons. It just isn’t ready for to go yet. WR and Oline are my biggest concern. There are viable QB options if Ridder doesn’t improve.

UC had a lot of luck last season both in games and with the overall roster health. This injury issue combined with the upcoming schedule scares me.

2009 had elite offense. That was a legit top 8 team that season.

It's simple: we have a team built like Ohio State that runs Ohio State-like schemes. But we have less talent than Ohio State.

Our scheme is fine because many good & even some elite teams are susceptible to that scheme. But Ohio State is not one of them. We were never going to beat Ohio State at their own game.

It’s been almost 60 years since we beat O$U in any game of significance. We may never.

Disagree. 2nd half of the season the D got wore down. Beat UConn by 2, WVU by 3,
Pitt by 1, gave up 36 to Illinois. Florida would have still smoked us if BK stuck around.

That offense didn't look too elite against its only elite opponent that year.

in the game without its head coach and playcaller? half the staff already in south bend. where the interim HC/playcaller had already accepted the buffalo job and the remaining staff with him were house hunting and recruiting for buffalo. cant imagine why they didnt score more than 26 points when the defense couldnt get off the field

1. What offense looked elite against that opponent?
2. They were missing their head coach and had a skeleton staff for bowl prep.

All the numbers (even advanced numbers) said they were an elite offense that year. Also the big east finished second to the sec in sagarin conference strength that year (sec was on first by a wide margin).
