Dantonio was the same way. Kelly came in, took good players, and found a system that made the team elite. Idk. Watching CFB its a little obvious that the top 5 programs are separating themselves, isn't it? Bama is dominating the SEC. Clemson the ACC. OSU the big 10. It's like European soccer.

BK's team were not elite. He won a lot of games, and a lot of close games. I agree about elite teams...maybe the top 7 IDK.

2009 had elite offense. That was a legit top 8 team that season.

That offense didn't look too elite against its only elite opponent that year.

in the game without its head coach and playcaller? half the staff already in south bend. where the interim HC/playcaller had already accepted the buffalo job and the remaining staff with him were house hunting and recruiting for buffalo. cant imagine why they didnt score more than 26 points when the defense couldnt get off the field

You guys are crazy if you think UC would have given Florida a good game with BK's staff in place.
As soon as walked into the Superdome and saw the teams warming up I knew they game was over.

Yep. If you are going to be at such a major disadvantage in the trenches, you have to spread em out, and have speed.

Brian Kelly is an unredeemable jerk but he definitely knew that coaching absolute. Nearly impossible to compete against more talent unless you are run some oddball outmoded system like the veer or are trying to hang half a hundred every game.

Mike Bohn was Specifically looking for a wide-open offensive Style during the coaching search. What happened to that? I really would like someone to comment on this. I’m not in the know I have no idea.

We are getting better players, and building. And we Definitely have toughness. But BK Sure had a recipe to use A different style that could be successful with inferior talent.

I thought we were supposed to have a wide open offense. Does anyone have info on this?

One of my guesses would be, last year we had Hayden Moore and a freshmen ridder. This year we have ridder and, well, Deguara.

I'm not sure we have the players to even attempt a potent offense.

This.

That being said, I thought that team put up a pretty good fight and showed up well...all given.

As bad as that loss was, we at least scored and made it somewhat respectable.

Today was worse.

We'll never know. What I know was that team wasn't the same team. Saw players out the night before the game. Talked to players parents before the game that said the staff was thin and inconsistent with their schedule and prep. I felt reasonably optimistic before making the trip, but based on what I saw and heard when I was down there I wasn't confident come kickoff.

Even if true it takes nothing away from that Bearcat offense which was excellent. Florida was just an awesome team.

We ran play action that game. It was the dumbest offensive game plan I've seen for a single game, they have speed rushers not worried about us running and we have our QB take his eyes off the receivers to play fake.

before scheduling O$U IN THE future, I want double the talent and size on our offensive and defensive lines. It was embarrassing watching the buckeyes run over both lines. The osu qb had more than 10 seconds to throw or run the ball most of the time. We have a lot more recruiting to do but it can be done with Coach Ficklell. Just keep recruiting some top ohio linemen.

I agree. We didn't have a chance against florida. Just hope the future gets brighter with much better recruits.

Unless the plan on coming to Cincinnati for a two for one you don’t even think about putting them back on the schedule.

I said this leading up to the game, this week called for a buy game at Nippert. Rest guys, get a win, build momentum and move on. You have to be smart with your schedule and playing Ohio State after UCLA wasn’t smart.

UC just can’t let this game be a season killer or program killer that stalls the positive things going on.

The son of a friend of ours was a student videographer for football that year....he said even with the coaching turmoil the student videographers still did their jobs of taking and breaking down film preparing for Florida....but there were no coaches interested in doing anything with the film to prep for Florida. That team was left high and dry for the Sugar Bowl...little to know meaningful pregame preparation.

This is basically what I heard right before the game chatting with random player parents. Sounded like coaches just didn't care at all.

The kicking situation is at high school level. Maybe JV level. That FG today would have hit a lineman if it wasn’t blocked.

Need the BearcatMan signal!

I'm working on it...unfortunately all the STers I have worked with are already signed and sealed to other FBS programs. Oddly enough the MAC is picking Ohio clean of solid kicking prospects in the Midwest at the moment. No reason why we couldn't get some kids if we actually focused on recruiting them.

I don’t see how A coach could be so unprofessional. On top of that the less you prepare the more you’re going to be embarrassed on national TV. Doesn’t make much sense. The athletic director, etc. needed to be on top of this. Plus not allow players out the night before the game.

I have to disagree. you have to play the top teams. The stronger players will learn from this. Coaches and players now have something really good to measure themselves against.

If can get home and home you play them but not buy games agianst the top six to eight teams. The key is get home and home and select buy games or two for ones against the next group of schools that range from around 12 to 50 each season. For most part the upcoming schedule looks like that. Sometimes you don’t know who is going to stay elite as Miami, Florida State, USC, Nebraska and Tennessee once were super powers. Right now I would stay away from Ohio State, Bama, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma, and LSU. Schedule the PAC-12, the ACC minus Clemson, and the bottom of the Big Ten.

Outside of the buy game at Arkansas the overall scheduling make sense. The buy game at Notre Dame is winnable as the Irish have fluctuated over the years.

We are still trying to fix the Offensive line. There was no chance this team was going to be able to pass against OSU when the line was not going to be able to contain the #1 pick in the draft

Lucky for us, we were able to push UCLA's line around, and most the rest we face will be more like UCLA than OSU

FWIW the team doctors all ate the same meal before every game that season (I think it was like oatmeal or corn flakes or something). Anyways, they didn't eat that meal before the Sugar Bowl. Makes you think.

Btw, this thread all comes together to tell us something we probably should've been more aware of before, but this is a top 45, top 40 team that could sneak into the Top 25 with another decent season but likely doesn't have any hope of competing for a conference championship. Good news is that we'll be better next year. Bad news is that I don't know how far away that offensive line is.
