Hey, just curious if any of you have seen this movie yet? A friend from my hometown is one of the two writer/directors of the film. It's a low budget independent film that has been getting some really solid reviews.
Plot summary (without much detail so it doesn't ruin anything):
A young man with down syndrome runs away from a retirement home he's stuck in with dreams of becoming a professional wrestler. Zack (plays himself) hits the road in search of his wrestling hero's wrestling camp in rural NC (if you're familiar with the Outer Banks you'll recognize a lot of town names). He coincidentally meets up with a outlaw fisherman (Shia LeBeauf) running from his demons and the two bond.
Admittedly, some of the lines are corny, but it's an amazing feel good movie that will leave you reminded of the good in humanity, as well as the beautiful bond you can have with those with special needs.
For further background, this film took my friend 5 years to produce, some of which he spent broke camping in backyards to ensure this movie was made. My friend and his fellow writer/director met Zack at a special needs event and he mentioned his dream was to be an actor. They got to know him a little better, established a genuine and unique bond and wrote this movie for him. It's a beautiful story of a real life guy living out his dream.
Let me know if you see it what you think. I've seen it once already. I drove an hour and a half to Tucson. They're finally playing it in the small town theater I live near here and I'm excited to go see it again.
Go check it out!!!
