Tennesse State Vs Middle Tennessee State is a renew rivalry game from OVC days. This would be a bragging rights of shorts.

Far more important than having a "history of upsets" is who you are playing. E.g., I agree that South Dakota State is a good FCS team and probably could beat a couple dozen FBS teams. Maybe 30 - 40 of them.

But they aren't beating Oklahoma.

So you have to look at who is being played, because "FBS" means everything from Clemson to Eastern Michigan, and that's a whopping difference.

The big dogs did fell to FCS teams, so it can happen.

Many things can happen, but you tell us to 'watch' certain games for upsets, you must mean that they have a reasonable chance of happening.

Oklahoma is #4. No team ranked that high has ever lost to an FCS team.

So that would probably qualify as a game that we don't need to watch for an upset, eh?

FCS App State beat #5 ranked Michigan in 2007. Not much difference between 4 and 5.

No, I do not believe they'll beat OU, but just pointing out that it's early in the season and rankings aren't solidified yet (like for Michigan that year).
App State was also an elite program at that and Michigan had Rich Rod wrecking their program from within, with players showing up high to the game. USD is not an elite FCS program, not even top half in their conference, and Oklahoma's very well-coached and coming off a beatdown of a strong G5 opponent. The game's gonna be a boat race.

Rich Rod wasn't destroying the Michigan program then. It was Lloyd Carr's last season.

He does have a point. That game suddenly became a trap game. I still think GSU takes it, though.

RE: Possible FCS Wins Over FBS Week 2
This year Week 1: FBS 39 - FCS 1
Last year Week 2: FBS 28 - FCS 1

The trick seems to be finding which FBS team that will prove to be a 2-10 team by the end of the season is playing a good FCS team this week.

The only games in that list worth watching for upsets are Maine @ Ga Southern and SIU @ UMass. You could have put #7 Kennesaw St. vs. a bad Kent State, which is a legitimately rough matchup for the FBS school, too.

I'm still picking Kent in this matchup... but I think it could go either way honestly.

RE: Possible FCS Wins Over FBS Week 2
Well, so much for David's possible FCS wins.

North Carolina A&T at Duke - 45-13
Northern Colorado at Washington State - 59-17
Maine at Georgia Southern - 26-18
Richmond at Boston College - 45-13
Stony Brook at Utah State - 62-7
William & Mary at Virginia - 52-17
South Dakota at Oklahoma - 70-14
Southern Illinois at UMass - 45-20
Western Illinois at Colorado State - 38-13
Eastern Illinois at Indiana - 52-0
Tennessee State at Middle Tennessee State - 45-26
Fordham at Ball State - 57-29
Furman at Georgia State - 48-42
McNeese State at Oklahoma State - 56-14

Many of them were not even close. The one FCS win is technically an upset but not entirely a surprise.

David, I urge you to do yourself a favor and stay away from Oaklawn.

These are games to watch for possible upsets this week. Do not sleep on the Dakota schools, or they will beat you.

How did your predictions go Davey boy?

I mean, he didn't really predict any of them, just pointed out that these were some games to watch. The FBS teams were all favored by a good amount.

RE: Possible FCS Wins Over FBS Week 2
This week's FCS vs FBS teams (19 games):

Citadel - Georgia Tech
Furman - Virginia Tech
Bethune-Cookman - Miami (FL)
Montana - Oregon
Cal Poly - Oregon State
Idaho State - Utah
Chattanooga - Tennessee
SE Missouri - Missouri
Lamar - Texas A&M
SE Louisiana - Ole Miss
South Carolina St - USF
Missouri State - Tulane
Idaho - Wyoming
Portland State - Boise State
Weber State - Nevada
Murray State - Toledo
New Hampshire - Fla International
Texas Southern - Louisiana
Norfolk State - Coastal Carolina

So far, the FCS is 2-66 against the FBS. I think there's a chance they double that win total this week.

There are at least 8 teams could as possible upsets. Chattonooga could win if Tennessee chokes again this week.
The Florida twins in C-USA seemed to go back down to were they are at.LOSING
Weber State is a strong FCS team, and they could pull the upset.
The Citadel could beat Georgia Tech.

We have to see how much Boise State put up on Portland State. Portland State came close to beating Arkansas.

As for La.-Monroe take Florida State to OT? La.-Monroe always bring their game against P5 schools, but choke against G5 schools.

Several FCS teams playing lower level schools.

Catholic U. at Georgetown
Lincoln, Pa. at Delaware State
Kentucky Christian at Morehead State
Taylor, In. at Butler
Fort Valley State at Florida A&M
Langston at UAPB
West Virginia Wesleyan at Davidson
Western New Mexico at Nothern Arizona

There are others, but these could be upset bids.

I was careful when I said 4/5, so it was a huge difference - the difference between me being right and being wrong, LOL.

Beyond that, my problem with the OP wasn't that he focused on possible FCS/FBS upsets. It's that the he didn't focus on them. He just listed all the FCS/FBS games even the ones that were ridiculous, like the Oklahoma game (what did OU win by, 50?).

A better idea would be to single out two or three games, and explain why you think the FCS team has a decent chance to pull off the win. Heck, some times, an FCS beating an FBS isn't even an upset. I would favor a South Dakota State or North Dakota State over probably 30 FBS teams, at least.

Considering that UMass isn't far removed from being an FCS team itself, that shouldn't be so surprising. Fact is the MVFC on the whole is pretty comparable to the MAC, CUSA and Belt when it comes to strength. When your roster is made up of mostly 2 star players, there's not going to be much separation.

The only difference between the MVFC and UMass is that some of the MVFC players share a scholarship. The talent level is the same for both.

Yes, there is some prejudice here, the notion that FCS shouldn't beat FBS is like the notion that G5 shouldn't beat P5.

Truth is, just as the top G5 teams are often better than many P5 teams, the top FCS teams are often better than many of the bottom FBS teams.
