Tony Pollard and Cowboys Salary Cap
The new deal with THE COWBOYS and Ezekiel Elliott is probably going to effect Tony's long term relationship with DALLAS. I would not think there is enough room for two highly paid running backs on one NFL team. So, unfortunately I forsee Tony either being traded or eventualy becoming a free agent and leaving DALLAS. What do you think?

RE: Tony Pollard and Cowboys Salary Cap
I think you are 4-5 years too early with this thread.

Pollard is a rookie and not yet gained a single yard in the NFL. And he was never going to be #1 RB or paid anything like a #1.

If he is productive as a backup, he is going to be a cowboy for the next 4-5 years. But he is not going to have the opportunity to demand big money. He won't get enough touches because Elliott is the best RB in the NFL and still very young.

So I don't see how anyone can perceive Pollard as a highly paid RB.

I don't see how you can make a blanket statement about his career the other way, either. Based on how he has looked; how can anyone even think of pigeonholing him as a career backup who won't make a lot of money?

Looks like he had the misfortune to be drafted in a year when other folks contracts need to get done.
If Zeke gets what he wants, and Dak, as well as Amari...Dallas will be stuck with those guys for awhile.
As Jerry has said "the pie is shrinking" (amount of money Dallas has to sign guys)
Tony may not have a chance to re-sign with Dallas after his contract is up.

Right now we are looking four years into the future as far as Tony Pollard becoming a free agent and looking to sign somewhere else.

Over that four years almost anything can happen...Zeke could suffer a catastrophic injury and Tony be the main guy, or someone else loses a key running back and offers Dallas a king's ransom for Tony (or Zeke), but it is waaaaaay to far away to start thinking about his next free agency option. Best thing for Tony right now is to keep his head down and be ready to go as "The Next Man Up" if something were to happen with Zeke.

Very, very, very easily. He is on the same team as Ezekiel Elliott.

Therefore he is a backup, not a starter.

This is common sense stuff here.

RB careers are short. By the time Tony Pollard's is due for an extension, Elliott will be out the door.

He is going to get some carries and touches, thats why they drafted him.

Zeke is going to be the workhorse though. He is an every down, complete RB. The most complete RB in the NFL.

This is common sense stuff here.

Common sense would also tell us that football is a very physical sport and RBs take massive damage over a period of time. No telling what might happen over the next 4 years.

If I were him I would be 100% on board with the D. Williams treatment. Just enough carries to get a big contract. After that big contract is done, nice and healthy and living the life.

Common sense also tells us Zeke is only 24 years old and they just signed him to a 90 million dollar extension.

Unless he has a career ending injury, he is going to be the guy there.

And the cowboys are very open about the fact that he is a full time, every down back. They are very open about the fact that he is going to continue to be their workhorse.

Keep in mind none of this has anything to do with how good Pollard will or will not be.

I'm convinced the guy is going to be really, really good and an explosive change of pace back.

He is not going to be getting 300 touches or be in a position to lead the league in rushing and demand top dollar. But he is going to be a multi millionaire, play for Americas team and likely be a really effective back.

It is amazing how blinded people can become by their fandom...

Pollard did well in PRESEASON running with the first team. He showed promise...But let him do something in the regular season before we crown him.

RE: Tony Pollard and Cowboys Salary Cap
I'm hoping they use him on kickoffs, but so few kicks are returned now and they didn't do it much in the preseason.

I think their plan is to spell Zeke for a few possessions or when they have a game in hand. Maybe in some 3rd down packages. But Zeke is a really good 3rd down back and their best pass blocker.

Pollard is likely the most unproven pass blocker in the backfield. The FB is a pretty solid pass blocker.

He may get a higher number of carries in the first 2 games since Zeke missed all of camp and preseason. The fact that he got to work as the #1 back all throughout camp and preseason was the best case scenario for him.

I think you will Pollard and Elliot on the field together A LOT. The Cowboys want to use Pollard as a weapon all over the field. That's why they drafted him.

Depending on how flexible the new Offense is Pollard may get more snaps than people think.

Pollard can lineup at WR and cause serious mismatches in the passing game. You can essentially have a legitimate 4 wide receiver, 1 TE set on 1st and 10 but the defense would need to put personnel out there for a standard 1RB, 1TE, 3WR lineup.

Is seriously doubt they are on the the field together A LOT.

The cowboys are a power running offense and Pollard is not known as a blocker.

There may be some packages where we see them both but its highly unlikely its going to be a common look.

Its typically going to be one or the other. Zeke the majority of the time as the season progresses. Pollard is going to get his touches though if he continues to run like he did in the preseason.

The cowboys are not a spread 4-5 WR offense though. If they are doing that a lot then they are probably in trouble. Its not how the team is built.

Zeke is already great and there is only a 2 year age difference between the two.

Almost zero % chance Zeke will be getting traded but one can dream I guess.

Nothing wrong with that 04-cheers

Just for the record.... Cowboys are fools to sign him for that much for that long. Thank goodness I am not a Cowboys fan.
