I am not sure what made me think of this but I remember several years ago George Lapides told a story about a basketball tournament or bowl game Ole Miss was playing in up in NYC. I am pretty sure it was basketball. And there were a few OM fans meandering around Manhattan in their OM gear. He said the residents of New York had no idea who/what Ole Miss was. Most thought they were advertising a new Mexican restaurant called Ole’ Miss. Olay. I guess the SEC affiliation doesn’t help the bottom feeders too much.

It's just a throwback school.

The whole state is kind of throwback--not that there's anything wrong with that.
Some of my nicest cousins live in Mississippi. Grandparents are buried in Ingomar--right outside New Albany.
