I've been spit on by both WVU and Steelers fans. Regarding the former, I feared for my life when Cotton Eyed Joe came on during the 3rd quarter.

I never had issues at WVU but the fans that came to Cincy had a problem if they were driving home drunk and foul mouthed. Now fans at Marshall were very nice as were IL.

OK, rant over... I'll hang up and wait to get taken to task. Stay classy Bearcats fans.

I caught flack for complaining about that during the Houston game a few years ago. I'm glad someone else feels the same. That kind of environment takes the fun out of it for me. I'm not a prude and I'm prone to dropping f bombs myself from time to time, but a chant at a football game? Nah. It's just a game.

Kind of wish we could come up with something a bit more clever, say like they do at an FCC match.

FCC fan groups do have creative cheers and in general they are clean or if not entirely clean at least funny.

I can't say the same for the Columbus Crew fans...
Was at the FCC v Crew game sitting near the Crew fans section. The Crew traveling fans were the worst opposing fan group I have ever experienced at any arena, stadium, etc. Tons of angry FBomb cheers, there signs were really obnoxious. Officers from the Sheriffs Dept had to stand in and around the Crew fnas to keep them in line.

Guessing there's a lot of Columbus Crew fans that are also Super Bcknut tOSU fans. So I guess I shouldn't have been shocked by their behavior.

Soccer? A 2/3 year rivalry between FCC and Crew in a league not even ranked in the top 10 in the world was the worst group of fans you’ve ever seen?

Guessing you’ve never been to UC vs. Eggs? Both sides
Or OSU vs Michigan? Again both sides
Or Bengals vs Browns/Steelers? Again both sides

Like others have pointed out most of the worst fans can be summed up by the middle aged drunk still trying to be the man. Of course the Bengals/Browns/Steelers have tons. And since Ohio State seems to be the State school these types of people root for its more prominent.

There’s positives and negatives to being a UK, OSU, etc. vs. say a UC, Purdue, or Minnesota.

Everyone’s had crap said to them. That’s part of going to games (especially away). As long as you ignore you will not find yourself in an altercation. As nice as Michigan fans or Oklahoma fans were to us it’s a totally different story when they play Michigan St. or Texas.

RE: Let's represent UC well!
I've shared this before... I'll share it again.

I've been to Bengals-Steelers, UC-WVU, at UK, at OSU and … (gulp)... Indiana HS basketball games.

I have NEVER seen anything like the utter contempt and borderline criminal behavior that I've absorbed from the holier than thou Xavier crowd.

My story is the 1990 shootout which was the first with Huggins. Besides the verbal abuse, hearing everything in the book and then some... there was a group of students (must've been freshmen) located up near the top that were about 4-6 rows behind us.

When UC had surged ahead in the 2nd half, we then became the target of anything they could throw at us. Pennies, wadded up cups, even a lid to a bic pen.

So I hear one of these punks yelling down to the elderly couple sitting directly behind us. I hear them yelling "LEAN OVER! LEAN OVER!" So I'm thinking, "Lean over? What's that all about???"

So I turn around to see this elderly couple, easily in their 70's, each leaning over a far as they could in opposite directions with these stupidass grins on their faces.

Rather than be mature and not condone such juvenile behavior, these senior citizens were leaning over to get out of the way to give these punks, who had built this mega paper cup wad, a clear shot to drill us in the back of the head.

From cradle to grave, X people are asses.

Yeah I was there. Was waiting outside of the Gardens for my friend, and a bus full of X students pulls up and everyone gets off. A bunch of them walked up to me screaming in my face. Most of them were females.

I have had my own experiences as well. However, the behavior at the brawl should be something that is studied in sociology and psychology classes. It doesn't get a lot of mention, but everything that built up for what occurred is classic behavior...

Willie Cunningham manipulating a young SK to making a comment on the air...

XU players talking smack the whole game against players, making gestures at time to the bench...

XU fans throwing blue paint down at the UC bench, IIRC they hit Whit Babcock or one of the other coaches' wife/girlfriend...

After getting decked Kenny Frease standing on the podium pointing at Whit Babcock and other UC dignitaries shouting obscenities...

The 99% white crowd booing UC players off the court...

The ironic thing is after the fact the Xavier loving media in town was trying to blame the incident on UC. Cunningham calling for prosecution of Gates, Dick Vitale (fan of all private schools) blaming incident on UC on ESPN)..

I have long made the comment that the outrage of Gates decking Frease had to do with the fact you had this big guy deck a white kid. Players on both teams were throwing punches, yet Gates gets called out because he his punch was more powerful.

Yes XU fans are a bad bunch of apples.

If UC could ink a long term home and home basketball deal with OSU I could care less if we ever played X again. I'm probably a minority opinion on that but knowing the history of the Shootout and the fan behavior across town, I have no desire for UC to validate that.

X knew (and mostly liked) the style of play they faced with UC in recent shootouts. With Brannen's arrival, I'm guessing they may be concerned about the new sheriff in town.

I've heard from a couple sources just like Miami (OH) in football, the XU series would have been discontinued had the 2005-2011 Big East remained alive. Those rivalries were replaced with Louisville (who had been a long rival anyway), Pitt and WVU.

Considering the FCC fans are the worst fanbase I have ever encountered over the past 3 years any and all the chants directed at FCC were warranted. 2009 Pitt was the worst experience I had in all my years of sports with multiple homophobic slurs towards me and my group...but that was all topped by FCC the past couple of years.

With regards to law enforcement separating Crew fans from the other sections, they're up there in 215 for every game per MLS rules for every MLS stadium. They probably go unnoticed for other games or there's less of them when other teams bring 20-30 fans, tops.

There's a lot of times we hear from other message boards nuts like ourselves and we focus on the worst and most arrogant of those fans. However, I'd like to challenge all of our Bearcats fans going to the game to remember what name you're likely going to have on your chest. Be loud, be proud, and cheer for the Bearcats! Just don't go out of the way to be jerks to the Buckeye fans. Most of those people likely aren't the worst of the worst that we hear from time to time. And even if they are, we have the opportunity as a fan base to be the bigger people. I know they're just students but I heard way too many chants of F*** the Bruins getting spread throughout the student section on Thursday night.

I find that a bit peculiar (not doubting what you said)-- while I am sure not everyone falls into this category, I would bet dollars to donuts that on average most of the FCC fan base are more "progressive" than your typical sports fan. Heck, the one fan group carries the Gay Pride Flag as they march down to the stadium.

This is pretty indicative of most hardcore soccer fans in general. I feel like I've seen the Pride Flag in the main supporter section of most soccer teams in America.

I'll be there. Where is the best/safest place to park?

Not sure the best place, but campus is pretty safe especially at that time of day. Anything West or North is just business parks.

Thanks Billy. I was more worried about the WalNuts Fans when UC pulls the upset. I'd rather not have my car flipped.

Drive a heavy car and don't park around student/Greek housing. I know from experience - my brother (an OSU alum) had his CRX flipped up there.
