I'm not sure what the hell they are trying to do by underreporting the attendance, but they should be ashamed of themselves. If they can't simply count the people entering the stadium because the technology is beyond their comprehension, they should hire an outside firm that knows how to do it. I do not want to hear any more crap coming out of the mouth of Frazier about fans not supporting this team when they can't even count all the fans who do.

Come on guys---there is not a single reason to "under count" the attendance and publish a number that is lower than it actually was. Unless we were paying ISU on how many people came, there is not a reason that supports what is being said.

With people being scanned when they come in---technology is technology and the number they are reporting is probably accurate to what they have.

They should also know exactly how many tickets were sold, how many were given away, etc.

If anything, they should have bumped the number to build a little momentum. I don't even think STF would undercut the actual (known) number.

If you were at the game, you would know that there were thousands more there than the 14,500 they reported. I was at games over the past couple years where the reported attendance was around that number, and it was a LOT less crowded than it was on Saturday.

It's pretty simple. For whatever reason, they blew it.

(09-02-2019 10:21 PM)NIU1981 Wrote:  I finally got a chance to watch the video after seeing the game in person. Here are a few observations:

-I'm even more impressed with Bowers after watching the tape. Great pocket awareness, great field awareness, great accuracy, great decision making. He did throw that one through the safety's hands in the end zone but overall he was fantastic. It's exciting to think where he can take this team once they've settled in.

-I'm even less impressed with the offensive line after watching the tape. Hoo boy, they have some work to do. Not only were they physically dominated at times, there were also several plays where confusion led to no one being blocked. Two examples:

10:45 of the third quarter, fourth and one at the north end. Perez and Veloz slant, Olson pulls, no one blocks the nose tackle who destroys Harbison for a loss.

2:54 of the fourth quarter, third and five, pretty much no one on the defensive line gets blocked. Olson and Patton end up on the ground in the backfield after blocking no one.

There was also a sack where the ISU D end didn't get touched and numerous plays where the edge wasn't sealed. The line really needs to figure it out or it's going to be ugly in Salt Lake City.

-I feel better about our pass rush after watching the tape. They need to learn how to get some sacks but they did pressure the QB into hurrying his throws on numerous occasions.

-I feel better about our corners after watching the tape. Aitken did a heck of a job for a true freshman. He got beat once or twice but has everything you want in a corner. And McKie is going to be a star. Add Haney and Walker and you have an explosive group for the next few seasons.

-What a concept to use tight ends in the passing game! Five, count em, tight ends got used in the game. It's great to see those guys getting used, especially since the wideouts are a work in progress overall.

-Folks were talking about dropped passes but I only noticed two, a swing pass to Nettles and of course the one to Tears. Bowers is so accurate I don't think drops will be a big issue.

-Our D tackles and linebackers are real good. Like real good.

-Great energy in the crowd and as others have mentioned there had to be at least 18,000 in the house.

-ISU has a really good team. Give them props for making the game a slugfest. I love the games against in-state FCS teams because they always treat the games like the Super Bowl and bring great energy.

-I watched some of the Utah-BYU game and Utah really put the hammer down in the second half. They are a terrific team and it's easy to see why they are getting picked by many to win the PAC12. I'm headed to Salt Lake City but honestly my hopes are for improvement and everyone staying healthy.

Good points, just wanted to mention, I felt the team tackled extremely well. A big part of that is how good our LBs are. But the team tackled really, really well. Many open field tackles. Short gains stayed as short gains.

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence." In other words, I think the ticket office just screwed up plus ticket scanners on the west side weren't working properly.

And FTR I'm still very pro-STF. Hammock was a great hire and the scheduling is night and day compared to Compher.

It's a good thing no one I know was Tweeting saying "might be Childers time". I also would hate to know someone who was vocally calling for Childers in the Fatty's Club.

Glad that wasn't happening!

There was definitely more than the reported attendance, but less than 18K. I am disappointed with the turn out and the tailgating scene was just sad. I walked through the east side grass lot a little bit before 3pm and it was a sorry display. What happened to all the students/frats tailgating?

I didn't feel our last Online coach was up to the task. We have had some excellent coaches at this position. When Carey was moved up he promoted the grad asst who played at Northwestern. This position at this school DEMANDED a more experience coach.

RE: Illinois State Game Thoughts
I absolutely believe the attendance was higher than the 14k that was reported. FOR EXAMPLE, when I went to enter on the east side with the two other gentlemen I was with, my tickets on my phone were not loading because I had terrible cell service in the area. I showed the ticket attendants my text message with the tickets that were sent from the athletic department and that alone got me to enter. that's 3 tickets they didn't scan and I'm sure others had issues as well.

good win, beat Utah!

I agree. For several years our defensive backs attempted to stop a ball carrier in the open field by either lowering their shoulders and ramming them, or diving at their legs. It was good to finally see our guys make some good open field tackles by wrapping them up.

RE: Illinois State Game Thoughts
The game was close, but NIU did what it should have done, dominated overall yardage. They had the great receiver (#12?) and we had too many penalty hard, those two things basically kept it close. We still had a 150 yard advantage.

Players I was impressed with:
- Bowers, the couple of bad drives at the end of the half made us restless, but he was dang accurate all game long. I felt like he could have taken off for a run a few times, but I probably just need to get over thinking a QB should do that.
- Harbison, not a lot there, but he fights for every yard, made a couple 2 yard gains 4.5.
- Richie, was that TLL?
- Crawford/Brinkman, you've all been asking for it...
- Tucker
- J Cole- athleticism out the wazzoooo
- Pugh- I already knew this, but he just hits so hard
- M. Williams
- LeRoy

Not impressed with:
- the ISU QB, talk about inaccurate
- Tears, come on man, turn the corner.
- Robinson- the size intrigues, but reminds me of a not as good of blocking Brescacin so far, please prove me very wrong.
- left-side of the OL

Listening to this week's press conference. I didn't know Coach Novak was there to cheer on Coach Ham. That's pretty awesome.

I know they’re only an FCS team, but their QB had a really good year last year and their RB was a first team AA and finalist for the FCS heisman and short of one throw both were absolutely shut down.

I did think Tucker needs work on punt returns. Let the one bounce over his head on the short hop, and he called for the fair catch a couple times when I didn't think it was necessary. Easy for me to say I know. But sure hands is the most important attribute and that's not a problem.

I don't care what the worthless athletic office reported, there's simply no way that was accurate. Anyone can compare the pictures at kickoff or simply watch a game replay and see when then camera pans over the crowd, Huskie Stadium was rocking AT A MINIMUM 85% full. That's about 18-19k, and that's still being conservative

I have been away so long that I forgot how to import a picture but I have a good one of the West side at kickoff. As much as I would have loved for HS to be that full it was sadly not and blaming this on athletics not counting is the type of ridiculousness why I left this place to begin with...(yes my ... is back too)

23,595 is the most recent sellout. This breaks down to 10,000 for the East side and 13,595 for the West side...

Without a doubt you could put everyone in sections A and G into the rest of the open regular seating(-3000) and beyond that there were many more empty regular seats(im just putting this at -500) ALSO the West side benchbacks and chairbacks were at most 60% full (-800) So that is about 9295.

I was sitting on the East side for the first half so I didn't have a good view but that leaves 5k for the stands along with about 250ish for the endzone to get us around what Athletics is saying the attendance was.

Is it possible NIU has been pulling a EMU these last 4 years? Telling us 13K when its really 10K. So now when we see 14k we think it's 17K? Isn't it more likely that a team would exaggerate low numbers rather than under count a higher number?

I’m sure Childers knew the minute he watched film from Bowers at Cal he was riding pine. The talent is night and day. Over the last couple seasons it’s been horrible to watch the QB position at NIU. Nice to finally have a good one and I’ll go out on a limb and say he will be up there (or surpass) this year in the NIU record book for passing yards in a season
