Not sure it’s going to happen but we need OM to win some games and surprise everyone. It’s helps us for them to win now. Their recruiting has been solid the last several years. They should win some games.

I realize Ole Miss is down and will likely be bottom of the barrel in the SEC this year, but they still recruit better than every other team we play this year. It’s all relative, but we didn’t just beat a bunch of scrubs.

I didnt say most talented team...I said better teams.

While we are talking about talent.......They might have higher rated recruits but the usual size/speed difference against us just wasnt there. The"talent" gap storyline has more to do with the conference patch on their jersey than anything that actually showed up when you put both teams next to each other. Houston is a more "talented" team. Cincy is a much better team without question.

Us scoring only 13 offensive points had more to do with 6 False Start penalties(4 of which were in Ole Miss territory) than anything Ole Miss did.

But by the same token, Memphis only TD was aided by a questionable roughing call and then a facemask call.

Bottom line is OM was a great team to catch the 1st game of the year. Their offense will improve with more familiarity and their defense was sufficient.

Still a great win and Memphis (both eye test and score test) was the better team.

No, BUT one can set a baseline and I would bet (with all the new moving pieces) that school's offense will get better.

I think their QB will implode with some off the field issues. Listening to him talking down to Tigers after they kicked his ass, it doesn’t appear he has learned much from pattern of past mistakes.

Agreed...

Memphis was the better team but we should have won by more...

Either Ole Miss is better than anticipated or we are not as good or underperformed. Ole Miss just came off of probation and we should have wiped the floor with them. If this game is in Oxford we likely lose.

(09-02-2019 07:48 PM)OldManTiger Wrote:  I just happened to be driving tonight when Rebel Yell, the OM show came on 87.7 and it was a hoot. The announcer is Chuck Rounsaville and he is bitter about the loss. Talked about how OM should never loose to Memphis. Two things I heard were:

1. Near the end of the show, his co-host said something like Memphis has a good coaching staff and his response was "Not really". Very dismissive of the fact that their "former head coach staff" was bested by Memphis.
2. Then he said the Tigers will be putting up 55 points against "William and Mary. We should never lose to Memphis, we just shouldn't."

Help me here, when is the William and Mary game? Also, if we don't play them next year, it is really is nice to end the series and be able to say,
"We won two of the last three in the series, especially the last one."

I'm guessing that is a facetious jab at our schedule

If the Tigers had a solid kicker Memphis would have won 19-10...Memphis was simply the better team Sat.

If we'd wanted we also could've scored a toudown on the final drive. It really was an 18-10 or 22-10 game, not a 15-10 game.

If White could complete a pass over 20 yards, Memphis wins this game at least 35-10. The fact that this wasn't at least a 2 TD win for the Tigers gives me pause for the rest of the season.

We scored two TD's buddy. OM's only score came from a INT that should have been called back due to a defensive holding because the defender straight up tackled our receiver. The receiver was called for holding.

Ole Miss will be the 2nd or 3rd best team. Maybe Cinci and UH.

Just be honest.

They will be the most "talented" team Memphis plays.

Their defense held Memphis to 13 offensive points and Memphis hadn't score less than that since @Temple in 2015.

They were starting a new QB and essentially had 5 brand new receivers. And a new OC.

They will improve (to what degree I don't know) but I have a feeling the win will be better looking as the season progresses.

we could have scored again had we wanted to at the end.
We were on their side of the field...and our RB fell down in the field of play by the sideline.
Had Gainwell wanted to score...he probably could have.
Tired of hearing this 'we only scored 13 offensive points'.
Penalties and errors prevented us from scoring more, but (I'm hoping) we'll get it cleaned up.

We scored two TD's buddy. OM's only score came from a INT that should have been called back due to a defensive holding because the defender straight up tackled our receiver. The receiver was called for holding.

The "receiver" was a running back actively engaged in trying to block a defender and who hadn't released on the screen yet. The defender very clearly tries to get around the RB and the RB very clearly grabs his arm and takes him down to the ground.

It was a hold.
