No question... obviously did not fill Donte's shoes. Game was too fast and strong for him... imo. Coupled with his low release point on his jumper, it was tough for him to get separation. Effort was there though, that is why he played as much as he did i believe.

Yea his shot had some serious flaws that got exposed big time with the increased athleticism. He was just such a good shooter coming in, had decent size, and jay develops shooting so well that it was crazy how much he struggled. I mean he was horrific.

It’s such a contrast to welage for us. He started out a little shaky but was a deadeye most of the year. He turned out to be a really good pickup along with Hankins. It’s just interesting to see which grad transfers work and which ones don’t. We’ve had very good luck for the most part. Jay is probably gonna swear off grad transfers altogether

You have to have managed expectations and clearly defined roles that they’re comfortable with. We’ve had very good luck with this, like I said. Hankins, Bernard, welage, stainbrook, and this year carter looks like he’ll be very good. We seem to have a good handle on integrating grad transfers even from lower leagues. It’s not easy on a coach to integrate these guys in only one year

Yeah, it is different. You guys have much longer history of working with grad transfers. Cremo was the first one for Jay. Obviously there been other transfers like Paschall, but he wasn't a grad transfer. I think it's a difference in systems, you can see the success Nova has tends to be with players that have been developed through it. Of course there are some exceptions, but for the most part those players that have been in for a few years pick up the defensive schemes and the offensive system. Anybody can see, Nova doesn't run a lot of plays per say. It is just more concepts in terms of how the offense is run. The biggest issue is defense. It takes time and experience to be effective on the defensive side for Nova. That's why tends to get much better towards the end of the year.

I just don’t understand how he was so bad at shooting. Even given the change in competition and system, etc. to go from almost 50% to 27% is just absurd. It’s like he got the basketball yips

Only thing would be if given how much more athletic the defense is- shots that were open before weren't with the more athletic guys. That would make some sense.

Also looking- 3 point shooting
his 3 years at Albany- in Ken Pom Tier A/B games- he was 13-46- 28.3%
last year at Nova- in Ken Pom Tier A/B games- he was 12-44- 27.3%

so pretty close to the same.

The biggest difference for Cremo. 1st 3 years at Albany he went to the line 436 times. Last year at Nova, he goes to the line only 19 times.

Yikes. That’s a stark difference. Good stat. Jay didn’t do his due diligence with the advanced metrics! Lol. Cremo has fletcher Magee syndrome

Really didn't have time to do any due diligence, really wasn't much out there after DD left once he killed it in NC game. Sort of had to take a flyer on Cremo, also other big time programs were after him namely, Kansas and I believe Creighton.

RE: Who will win the Big East this year?
yeah after DD exploded in the NCAA tourney it left Nova in a very challenging place(especially adding in Spellman). Totally changed what they expected to be back.

The FT numbers are just remarkable. After 436 FT in 97 games- 4.49 per game to get only 19 FT in 36 games- 0.52 per game- amazing. Even looking at the Ken Pom A/B numbers- went from 36 FT in 14 games- 2.57 per game to only 9 FT in 22 games- 0.41 per game- wow.

Same. With the move to the Big East, I've decided Xavier is my new favorite non-UCONN Big East team.
