Week 2 Game Preview: The Team 107 Miles Up North I-71
Well, here we are again. Let's get it started. How many of you are going to the game? I love your effort and loyalty to our Cats! I haven't seen any early line yet. I'm glad we took care of business at home against UCLA. Now, let's go try and win the toughest road game on the slate...

Will be going. My wife will go under protest as our prior encounters with to$u fans found them to be vulgar foul mouthed low lifes.

Week 2 Game Preview: The Team 107 Miles Up North I-71
I’ll be up there. Is there a specific lot to expect most UC tailgaters to be in? I saw the Republic of Cincinnati trailer had gotten an RV lot pass this year. Myself and my crew will be looking at setting up around 7 or so that morning.

RE: Week 2 Game Preview: The Team 107 Miles Up North I-71
Showing us some respect from a Bucknuts blog:
Quote:The Bearcats are a rugged team built in the image of their head coach, the former Ohio State player, assistant coach and head coach Luke Fickell. Fickell, a Columbus native, played for the Buckeyes from 1992-96. After a brief pro career, he got into coaching and was hired by Jim Tressel as the special teams coordinator in 2002.
He eventually moved up the ladder on the defensive staff and was tapped by university president Gordon Gee and athletic director Gene Smith to succeed Tressel as the head coach after his departure in May 2011. Fickell led OSU to a 6-7 record that season before stepping aside for Urban Meyer. Meyer retained Fickell as the defensive coordinator. He stayed in that job for five seasons before leaving to become the head coach at Cincinnati in 2017.
His first UC team was 4-8, but the Bearcats rose to 11-2 last year with a road win over UCLA in the regular season and a victory over Virginia Tech in the Military Bowl. UC was a trendy preseason pick to win the American Athletic Conference championship this season. The Bearcats got off to a good start with their 24-14 win over UCLA on Thursday night at Nippert Stadium.
The sophomore Ridder is in his second season as the starting quarterback. He completed 18 of 26 passes for 242 yards with two touchdowns and an interception against UCLA. Warren, a junior, is a physical back. He carried 26 times for 92 yards and a score in that opener.
UC’s defense was outstanding in the opener as the Bearcats held the Bruins to just 207 yards total offense. UC harassed UCLA sophomore quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson all night. He ended up 8 of 26 passing for 156 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He was sacked twice. UCLA netted just 62 yards rushing on 36 attempts (1.7 average).
Well, what can we say? This one has so many interesting subplots surrounding it. Fickell spent nearly two full decades of his life as a player or coach at Ohio State. But for the next six days his primary mission in life will be to come up with a plan to topple his alma mater. Just imagine what that would mean to him and his coaching career. Schools like Tennessee and Florida State are probably already out there looking for replacements for their current coaches.
It is believed he will be the first former Ohio State coach to lead a team against the Buckeyes.
For Cincinnati’s players, this could be their Super Bowl. It’s unlikely any of them were given an Ohio State scholarship offer, although many of them are products of Ohio and the surrounding states. They would all like to prove their worth by going into the Horseshoe and knocking off their Big Brother in the Buckeyes.
Cincinnati will not be in awe of its surroundings. The Bearcats have those wins over UCLA and Virginia Tech in their memory bank to know they can play with a Power Five opponent. But are they good enough to hang with a top five opponent nationally? Hmmm. Still, I think UC would be a middle-of-the-road Big Ten team. They’re probably already as good or better than Rutgers, Maryland, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and maybe even Northwestern.
One thing we know after watching that game on Thursday with UCLA is the Bearcats play a physical brand of football. They will hit Ohio State in the mouth and the Buckeyes will need to be ready to respond in kind. In many ways, the physicality will look and feel like a Big Ten game.
Ohio State is 14-2 all-time against Cincinnati. The two losses were in ’96 and ’97 – as in 1896 and 1897. The teams did not play between 1931 and 1999. Since 1999, they have played five times with OSU winning all five by an average margin of 18.2 points. OSU won the last meeting at home in the 2014 season (50-28). The closest call came in a 2002 game at Cincinnati’s Paul Brown Stadium (23-19).
Will this one go down to the wire, too? Hmmm.

This will not be our super bowl, but an important win towards us getting a birth in the playoff.

Bucknuts and Bearcats - Oh My!
Just enough condescension to miss being legitimately complimentary. Setting that aside, i was going to write a tongue-and-cheek post in the UCLA game thread about questions i have after the game and write a bunch of questions about Chip Kelly, DTR and the Youth of UCLA, which were all things that the msm seemed more interested in instead of the Bearcats. That said, in earnest i do question how much we really know about Cincy after that game. Too early to tell but it's entirely possible that we look back at that game and conclude that UCLA was really "p5" in name only. Hopefully having played against p5 caliber athletes in and of itself offered a truer test than playing FAU.

i disagree. This will be our Super Bowl...this week. And miami the week after next. And Marshall the week after that. This is CFB. if you aren't treating your upcoming match-up with SB like intensity, you end up out of the playoffs and in some consolation bowl game, like the Rose Bowl...

I appreciate your thought process, but OSU acts like we should be privileged to play them. I just don’t understand that line of thinking. The reality is that playing them is kind of like any other top 10 program that has been given $$$$ millions by the networks. Give us their cash and we would be just as good if not better. I personally am not impressed. Let’s just go out there and play our game very disciplined as an underdog (with far fewer resources). I still like our chances.
