I'm always amused when I see the P5 conferences referred to as a "cartel". Not only it is painfully childish, but it reveals just how desperately the writer desires their school to be part of the group. And if that were to ever happen for their school, how quickly the "cartel" references would disappear and the lording of their status over former peer schools and conferences would begin.

It's not that I don't like it. I don't even have a stake in the matter. As I explained, it's just amusing, is all.

Calling the P5 the cartel is stupid. We have FCS and G5 for a reason. I don't think ECU belongs in the g5 but no one asked me. Small privates in areas of this country need to be demoted and I'm looking directly at Waco and Ft. Worth.

Tech hasn't won a conference championship out right since 1955 when they were a member of the border conference. Since then they've been co-champions twice. Once in 1976 when they finished in a three way tie with A&M and UH. And most recently in 1994 when they finished in a 5 way tie for first in the SWC because A&M (the only team that was worth a **** that year) was on probation. Tech fans don't get to make the calls on who gets demoted or promoted. Just appreciate being in a conference with two legit blue bloods and stay humble.

Tough loss tonight in Norman for UH. It's tough to win in Norman

I get the showdown in Dallas but it would be fun to see the Horns and Sooners play a H&H in their respective stadiums.

I think Alan Bowman had a history making night vs UH last season. Jalen Hurts just had a history making night vs UH.

I think Dana will do well in the American

Few teams go in to Norman and leave with a W. I agree about UT-OU. It'd be cool if they played H+H. Bowman tore our D apart last year. Hurt shredded it today. We've been weak on that side of the ball since Orlando left with Herman. Is what it is. I'm optimistic about Dana. No shame in losing to OU, but we definitely have a ways to go.

It was a good showing by Houston, and I agree, it bodes well for AAC play.

Despite the defensive problems - which almost everyone has versus OU - Houston looked as good as any AAC team this weekend, though judging UCF was hard because of who they played.

If UCF does as well as OSU this weekend against FAU, do they get a plus from you.

FAU is likely a very bad football team as well. Two years ago, when they won a few games, many hailed Kiffin like they hailed Strong at USF for a year or so. But I was skeptical of both guys from day one. As someone said a few days ago "reheated soup".

So no, you could beat FAU 50-0 and it won't mean much. We'll learn more about UCF when you play Stanford in a couple of weeks. You can't schedule an FCS HBCU, and a bad one at that, and expect many points for beating them up.

50-0 'at' FAU, Not a buyout game played at another schools home field. It may not mean much to you, but I feel it has to count because it means more to both schools.

Well.. I just wanted to clarify it was not, as some suggest, a term made up by some “butt-hurt” AAC fan on this board. It is pretty widespread actually. There are even alums and fans of P5 schools who see the inequity.

I realize my alma mater is one of those schools left out, but even if UC were in a power conference I’d still see it the same way.

Oh, there's certainly inequity, but the G5 schools are not the victims their fans portray them as.

Your school and conference agreed to the terms that relegated your school to the gang of 5.

That isn't the P5's fault or problem.

If Cincy gets an invite to a P5, would you like it when some of your former conference members call your school a dwarf or little 8 member?

I realize it's message board banter and those fans are butthurt because they were not included.

I am guessing this was started by an AAC fan, as they meet what you mentioned, they are so jealous they make up P6 and a fake National title.

J52, a few things to consider:

1. some UCF fans “get it.” They understand, and fully, that UCF was not the national champ in 2017. And many American fans understand this and find any UCF or AAC supporter who honestly believes this as … well, simply head-scratching.

2. I respect the fact that you have given the American (in broad terms) props in various posts.

3. I strongly follow two AAC universities/athletic programs (Cincinnati and Memphis, and want them both — and, in broad terms, the league — to do well). But I agree with you that the American is not a “power football conference.” I do not embrace the Power 6 narrative that some AAC fans do, though I do understand, to a degree, the mindset behind hit. Having said that, your (seemingly) frequent need to chastise American homers (even, on occasion, when not provoked) … is puzzling. I probably dislike American Athletic Conference apologists more than you (they are “hurting the team,” so to speak, and I am on the team and find it distasteful; you are not on the team and it’s “easy” for you to dismiss). I’ve even posted on this board that it’s negative. But I don’t feel the need to constantly take AAC apologists to task (as I feel, and maybe I’m wrong) that you do. Nor would I feel any need to hammer on homer Iowa State fans. Or homer Big 12 fans. It almost seems as if some AAC fans have personally disrespected you based on a handful of your posts. That’s just odd.

4. Like you, I do not like the use of the term “cartel.” Any reasonable college sports fan understands the reality and will not resort to such odd name calling. Obviously, a fan of a Group of Five athletic program would be thrilled to have that program be a member of the “cartel” and (were it) would probably no longer use that term — thus exposing that fan’s hypocrisy.

5. There is only one university for which I am fully passionate (academics, sports, cultural offerings, campus architecture, etc.) and it is a member of the SEC — and not the AAC.

6. I can see how some posters perceive you, on occasion, as presenting toward the AAC an on-line message board persona of a “you know what.”

7. To be fair, sometimes I could be a bit more critical with my posts about the AAC — and I know I can be a “you know what.”

Calling the P5 the cartel is stupid.

Thank you for a very well thought out post. I am a bit hard on AAC fans and I will try to limit that to only cases where they insult the rest the of us.

Yes, indeed, J52. The message boards can spur the "rough and tumble" in us all.

Thanks for responding with class.

What about Tim Brando? Last I checked he wasn’t president of an AAC university or even affiliated with any member school.

Tim Brando
@TimBrando
Elitists will hate this but while Alabama’s losing
@UCFFootball
has come from 14 down to lead late. Everyone knows this cartel is FIXED!

I was mainly referring to people on this discussion board.

Brando attended ULM, FWIW.

If Cincy gets an invite to a P5, would you like it when some of your former conference members call your school a dwarf or little 8 member?

I realize it's message board banter and those fans are butthurt because they were not included.

Dude, I would just let it roll off my back. I have heard people call my alma
Mater every name in the book. Everyone takes shots at us, including fans of schools that don’t have FBS football (I’m not just talking about Xavier). When UC was in the Big East, CUSA posters always called it the Big Least.

Certain posters just aren’t worth responding to.
