Well, they get the ball 1st in 2nd half. Maybe the WRs can get open.

This has not happened against a P5 or any other FB team within the last ten years in a regular season game.( The Bowl game against Boise State many years ago was the only worse scoreline which I recall.)
Not even against regular season losses against many ranked P5 teams either.

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you have repressed memories. Aside from Boise which you already mentioned, in the last 5 years we have been embarrassed like this by USF (2016), Marshall (2014), and Arkansas (2014).

I said regular season.
Not post-season.
The post season is different to the regular season.
Call it a trophy game and more importantly extra practice sessions for the FB team.
Also a chance to give players playing time in preparation for the following year.
Unless you are in the play-offs or a Big Bowl then winning or losing a Bowl game is secondary.
It is an honor to get an invite to a bowl. That is what is most important.
Taking a Bowl game forgranted and counting it as a regular season game is presumptious.

Agreed 100%. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming that these issues will be fixed. If we are still seeing this at the end of the season it will be a lot harder to give him that benefit.

What does any of that have to do with getting embarrassed by those teams? 2 of those games were not bowl games anyway. Simple fact is a blow out is a blow out.

You are correct regarding Arkansas and USF. They were regular season blowouts.

Regarding a post season birth, the one month extra practice is well worth the embarrassment of a blowout.

No, it's not!
Having extra practices is pointless if you're not able to get talent and what kind of message does it send to recruits if they see you annually get blown out in a bowl game?

The players and coach love the extra-month of practice and the experience which they earned through winning 7 or more games in the regular season.

Coach Joe Novak called the month of extra practice every football coaches Christmas gift.

Win or lose a minor bowl, I think the payout is the same.

There is no such thing as bad publicity for NIU FB.
Potential Recruits might see the extra publicity as a way to showcase their talents nationally, instead of sitting on a P5 bench.

RB Lashon Johnson "cowboy " was drafted to the NF despite NIU going through its worst record in recent football history.

Potential recruits want to showcase their skill and many look for a team situation where that is most likely to haappen

A bowl loss, sure. An absolute embarrassment, not even a little bit. It hurts recruiting, it hurts fan support, it hurts future bowl "upgrade" consideration, it hurts media image. A month of bad practice isn't a positive.

Too early for a junk thread like this. But in another thread I commented about players joking around when the team was struggling. That coupled with penalties and just a disorganized team play has me concerned

It’s hard to be optimistic when NIU looked like trash for 4 straight games playing what would some say the worst football since the 1990’s.

It’s not just Hammock. This coaching staff came in highly touted and had success before coming to NIU. It’s like they took dumb pills and forgot how to coach.

Valid, fair point of view. However, when you hire a coach who has been in the nfl for the past five years...and intern he hires a coaching staff, with no chemistry, a scenario like this can, and probably will occur.. curious why Frazier , went this route with a defending Mac championship team? If you argue the cubbard is / was bare, you did not watch the Utah + Vandy game..not personal towards Hammock, rather the thought process on the hire. When Novak retired, kill was brought in. He did not come from the N.F.L. , and he brought all his assistants whom were working together for years..they know each other and were on the same page...go huskies!

Bump. It’s like nobody knows what’s going on. Hopefully this is the last crap performance of the year.

That makes a ton of sense. Ham's guys are from all sorts of different systems...

They can’t even figure out how to punt the ball! That’s bad. Real bad.

I don't know anything about Hammock's personality, but something tells me he's a lot more easy-going and laid back then Carey. Part of me wonders if he's emitting some sort of a "cool dad" vibe towards the players, and so they feel more inclined to sluff off..

Coming from the NFL I wouldn't have thought that would be the case. But I'm starting to wonder that too.

Carey had a personality that turned people off. I've heard about Illinois high school coaches who despised him and his own assistants had a Rod-O-Meter in their office that they would set everyday based on if he was in a bad or good mood. You could see his demeanor in simple interactions with how he treated the media.
