Reputation questions
Looking for details on how Reputation works. How do I give reputation votes to someone?

I didn't see anything on the board FAQ.
I didn't see any details on users reputation pages.

Any details would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you want to give a user reputation points related to a specific comment they made:

Look at the bottom of the comment that you want to rep. On the left side, directly under the comment, is a small button with a green + symbol. Click on that button to go to the page to leave rep for that user.

If you want to give a user general reputation points that won't be linked to a specific comment they made:

Click on the underlined number next to the word Reputation under their user name. That takes you to the page to leave rep for that user.

Did you ever figure this out? I can't seem to, either...

Well, I’m no expert (so none of this is ‘official’) but I did suffer my some MAJOR rep abuse, and at a time before I even knew what it was, or was able to give out reps of my own, so what I’ve learned has been by the hard-way.

Go ahead and check out my reps esp the 2nd page. I had an ltu-r poster give me SIX neg reps in just a few minutes. Someone had to alert me this was abuse, and it was reported. I don’t know much of what the results were but I can say that it was handled.

What I do know are these 3 things: seems you can give out no more than 3 neg reps in a day, but the whole rep abuse issue seems to be left up to the discretion of the mods. You can also get into trouble if you give too many poz reps in a row, esp if it’s to yourself.

Finally, if you feel you have suffered from rep abuse you can report it to a mod. They will investigate and handle it as they seem fit.

Hope this helps!

ETA: FWIW, I think the whole rep thing is pretty silly and speaks volumes about those who get off heaping abuse of reps on others.

Thanks for addressing this Wedge, I have the same questions that TardisCaptain had a couple years ago. I don't see the small button with green symbol you referenced for giving rep to a post, the only one I see with a green symbol says "quote" and then the box at the bottom tells me to quote the post or deselect it.

I also don't see a way to give general rep to a poster by clicking on their rep number, that just takes me to a page showing all of the others who have given the rep and for what.

I'm new to posting here so wondering if you have to have a certain number of posts, or a certain amount of rep yourself, before you can give rep to others?

Correct. You have have to have a certain number of posts before the green button will appear. I don't remember the exact number, but it is at least in the hundreds.

Thanks mike for the response, I would give you points for that but I don't have enough posts yet!

RE: Reputation questions
I'm glad I found this thread.

I love the realignment forum on this site, but don't find much other reason to be on here. I remember a decade ago I could give that feedback and I just couldn't figure out why I wasn't given that option anymore.

I guess I'll have to get more active -- which means I guess Notre Dame will have to make up its mind.

RE: Reputation questions
If one poster has given you a bunch of negs just because he is a jerk, is there anything you can do about it?
