RE: Laughable Scores - 2019 Football - Week 1
I can't tell if Utah is any good or not. Brigham Young is so inept it is just hard to know. This game to have been a 10 point game until now has been just as boring as A&M's blowout. The best game of the night as far as holding interest was South Dakota State / Minnesota.
Here in Alabama with the sports tier on Uverse there was no Georgia Tech/Clemson game and that's okay because it was apparently pretty boring as well.
Right now I'm just hoping to see a great, and well played, game by the end of Saturday night. Florida / Miami was an ugly game and so far nothing has met my expectations or hopes.

The downside to this is Central Arkansas replaces Arkansas Tech as FBS’ next call-up.

It was a five hour informercial for Clemson. You knew who they were playing ... this puts you ahead of some of the ESPN crew on site.

Well, since we are both married to ESPN until the 2030's just get used to it. If they aren't king making, they are selling some Disney PC bullsheise view of the world and giving me a minority, a woman, and some dweeb white guy spouting nonsense, referring to the teams by the wrong name, overtalking the on field action, and hyping future events at every opportunity. It's worse than maddening. I turn the sound off and listen to music while watching the games. If the 30 second delay wasn't so distracting I'd listen to our play by play guys from radio.
I found out just the other day that Beth Mowins will be working SEC games. She's fingernails across the chalk board for me.
What ESPN has done is to take something that I loved and turned it into an annoyance that I endure to see the games I like. If IMG hadn't screwed up the game day experience so very much at Jordan-Hare I'd be headed by now toward 50 years of holding season tickets instead of a few over 40 years.
So if I can't enjoy my friends and the real game, and can't enjoy the television broadcasts for all of the annoying people and talking points which don't have a damned thing to do with the game, I guess I'll have to go back to what I did in my teens, shoot doves with an ear plug of the radio broadcast coming from a small pocket radio. At least that way I have a ready made system for venting my frustrations. Poor birds!

This would be BYU’s 9th consecutive loss to Utah. In other words, Utah hasn’t lost to BYU since they joined the Pac-12 in 2011.
I don’t think this is sitting well with the folks in Provo.

ACC = one of the weakest conference.
If the P5 narrows down to P4? Tonight's game between Clemson and Georgia Tech is a good example they should be picked apart for their best teams and leave the weakest behind. At least the Big 12 are more competitive except for Kansas.

SDSU's like NDSU or Toledo, I have no idea why a P5 would schedule them. They always seem to get up for those games and either make them closer than they should be, or win.
*edit* Alabama State with a pick with one minute left, UAB will escape the upset.
It’s a SWAC team, they were favored by 43, and UAB fans and bandwagoneers alike assured us all season there wouldn’t be a drop off.
Are you sure this one doesn’t count as an upset?
I know they were playing a SWAC team, but UAB was favored by *43*?
I didn't think UAB would be favored by 43 over a high school team.

Can you define not very good teams? Is that a definition usually reserved for 1 game?

Let me guess: You think Cincy looked impressive in winning over a P5 Power, and this is a Great Thing for The Bearcats and the AAC? And on the basis of One Game, right? No?
OK, I'll concede: Maybe UCLA is really a top 20 team and is going to win their next 10 games. It's just that the Nippert Bearcats are a top 10 team who are going to the Cotton Bowl while whining UCF style about being left out of the playoffs, so the game was the result of a very good team just happening to run in to a great team.
That's possible. But I doubt it. We shall see.

Really unimpressive start by CUSA. FIU got crushed, UAB and UNCC were unimpressive vs. FBS.

It's not about UCLA, it's about your presumption that Cincy is "not very good" when they are coming off of an 11-win season and picked by most experts to compete with UCF for the AAC East title.
But, I guess you are right about one thing. We shall see.

UCLA is a very bad football team.
What a great outlook on life: every silver lining has a cloud. I can't help but notice how often you try to cast a dark shadow on the happiness of others. As for UCLA, yep, they're 0-1 right now, but we (and you) will have a better grasp on their prowess by the end of the season. Until then...

I think UCLA is a very bad football team. Cincy played frankly like crap last night- 10 penalties, 2 turnovers- and still beat them by 10 points.

I didn't get to watch the game, but looking at the numbers, it looks like UCLA-Cincinnati's one of those games where the score's closer than the game was. UC doubled up UCLA in yardage, first downs, and possession, took the ball away from UCLA 4 times and held them to under 2 yards a carry. With numbers like that, you normally end up with a beatdown on your hands.
Maybe UCLA sucks and Cincy's a good team that for some reason didn't put as many points on the board as they could have. Games like that happen sometimes.

It's like Justice Powell once said about Pornography - "I can't define it scientifically, but I know it when I see it".
I guess it's because this is my 50th season of watching college football, and I've come to recognize good vs bad. To me, UCLA was inept, they didn't look very competent in any aspect of the game, and yet Cincy struggled to beat them, and at home.
So ... inept vs not very good.
But we shall see.
