It's what need to happen, the EU is not negotiating in good faith. A no deal brexit just means you go to WTO rules which isn't terrible. A small price to pay to regain your sovereignty.

Curious....

Quote:The queen is the head of state and is politically neutral. She acts on the advice of her government in political matters.

So, if the queen had said "no" would it have mattered? In other words, could Boris have still suspended parliament if the Queen had said no?

So I guess the Queen will get doxxed now since she is a conservative, pro-Brexit, Trump lover?

Ballsy move by Boris — high-reward if it works but high-cost if it doesn’t.

Actually no. The Queen CAN refuse, but the result would be that Johnson would have to threaten to resign to get her to cooperate or actually resign, basically forcing a general election which would basically be a referendum on the monarchy. No one wants that.

He might end up being the last PM of the UK.

Odds of a United Ireland and and independent Scotland are going up.

I know, I just didn't want to have to type that all out.

True, as far as it goes. But Ireland has been moving towards unification for a long time, totally apart from Brexit. The Good Friday Agreement (1998) really doesn’t make any sense unless you understand that Britain has lost the will to impose its will in Northern Ireland.

Will the Brexit/EU drama hasten that process? Perhaps. But (just speaking for myself) I’ve always had mixed feelings about British control of Northern Ireland, anyway, and if stepping back is the “cost” of Brexit... so what?

I am amazed at the possible irony, though: is the Republic of Ireland now poised to gain possession of the entire island, only to have its national identity absorbed into the EU?

As for Scotland: I’m proudly descended from there (clan MacLean). And I take no joy from saying this: but Scotland has been the UK’s welfare queen for a long, long time. If joining the EU is a cathartic way for the Scots to say “fu-k you” to the English, be my guest. But they will soon find that France/Germany are not going to let them ride the gravy train in the same style that the U.K. has allowed them to do for all these years.

Northern Ireland is still staying only about 40% Catholic. It was NOT Britain imposing its will on Northern Ireland. It was the protestant English and Scots who moved to Northern Ireland over the centuries of British rule who were choosing to remain part of Great Britain.

I agree that the Ulster Protestants are mostly Loyalist to the U.K. — but not nearly so intensely or overwhelmingly as in the past, even the recent past. And anyway, they will not get to make the decision (U.K. or R.O.I.) by themselves.

To be clear, I’d lean strongly towards keeping Ulster part of the U.K., and especially once Brexit takes place. I just don’t believe the British people are going to stick with it for another century like the Irish will.

If so many of the Scotch-Irish hadn't moved to America, almost all of Ireland might still be part of the UK!04-cheers
