ACC projects $3 million in additional revenue from ACCN
https://theclemsoninsider.com/2019/08/28...=home-hero

Quote:Neff and athletic director Dan Radakovich placed just a modest increase on Clemson’s budget for the new network. Last year, the ACC reported about $26 million per school for his television revenue. The Clemson Athletic Department budgeted just over $29 million for this coming season.

“We hope we can do more, but that is what we budgeted,” Neff said. “We feel like it will increase over the years. We feel good about what we budgeted and we’re confident we can at least get there.”

TCI learned Swofford informed each school a few weeks back that they should get the $3 million off the network. And though the ACC is excited about its network, its far behind what the SEC and Big Ten reported last year.

SEC schools made $40.9 million off its television revenue last year, while the Big Ten Reported $37 million.

RE: ACC projects $3 million in additional revenue from ACCN
IIRC, Notre Dame gets a full share of ACCN revenue.

That means they're projecting the league will net $45 million in ACCN revenue this year.

How much of that increase would simply be escalation in the original tv deal?

I’m assuming there’s a little bit of both in there. Most of the bump certainly is the ACCN though.

Based on past escalators about 1.4 million. The numbers cited however are essentially 2 years old. Last year the Big 10's combined media payout was 54 million and the SEC's was 43.7.

But this is not surprising. The ACC is not as transparent with its revenue as other conferences and what is reported via Equity in Athletics and what they claim usually are a couple of million apart.

JRSec,

Do you think the ACCN will be successful? I have my doubts.

I don’t remember the SECN having those hurdles in 2014.

It's too early to tell. The SEC had better carriage at its open. But then it was timed better to contract expiration. Also the concept opened under a definite market footprint cable subscription fee pay model. That's not the driving force now, content value is. T3 is still subscription based but as we move to more P games it will be less and less relevant.

I think the ACCN will earn them 3 million by year 2 and possibly more. I think the ceiling is 8 million until the cable model completely changes at which point I don't think the BTN or SECN remain as they are presently comported.

According to Swofford, he says $3 million for next year and it seems that thats what Clemson budgeted for next year, even though they feel that $3 million is the minimum and they will get at least that. Three million is not great and its not horrible. I have heard that the SEC, first year was between $3 million and $5 million per school, with $3 million being the latest figure for their initial year. So if the ACC gets $3 million first year, that would be very encouraging.

The $3 million is obviously including the escalator clause in total TV rights payout you #goacc apologists like to promote since Clemson is only budgeting a $3 million increase based on what the ACC is telling them.

South Carolina had a $5 million increase in revenue from the SEC Network the first year. Clemson is expecting a $3 million increase based upon conference office projections. Math was never my strong suit but that appears to be a negative $2 million difference, but I readily admit I could be wrong. As one of the biggest #goacc homers on this board who have essentially ran me off from my own conference message board explain exactly where I am wrong in my deduction.

Not only should this spin be entertaining it should have a direct effect on the track of Hurricane Dorian.

RE: ACC projects $3 million in additional revenue from ACCN
The SEC did make more their first year, but their revenue numbers were also factoring in the costs of the launch. That is, the cost of infrastructure and whatnot. That was all paid for after year 1 and the rest was gravy. The revenue from year 2 was significantly higher if I remember correctly.

Do we know whether or not these revenue projections for the ACC are accounting for their investment in the infrastructure? I honestly don't know..I'm asking.

Carriage is still an issue for the ACCN one way or the other. They've got big gaps in their coverage and from what I've read about the Spectrum deal, that wasn't a home run although at least they're on the platform.

RE: ACC projects $3 million in additional revenue from ACCN
I'm hearing the ACCN is getting $1.00 per sub vs. about $1.30 for the SECN. Based on that a reasonable/conservative projection for the first year would be $4M per school. Keep in mind that "budget" needs to be conservative to make sure you spend what you don't have - so if ACC schools are being told to budget $3M that means they are confident it will be at least that much.

I don't think JR is far off with his upper limit though -- I'm thinking $11M is the absolute upper limit so $8M is a reasonable guess.

Where did I say you were wrong? Three million to five million is what has been thrown around here and JRSEC recently said it was $3 million after its first year.

You yourself decided to leave the ACC board and everything is fine there. And you are violating the AUP by discussing moderation issues publicly. Just so you understand, I am a mod on this board too. So if I were you, I would just chill with the namecalling and picking fights. If you have a personal issue with me then just send me a pm and we can discuss it privately.
