Notify Pastner earlier before he gave the last scholly to Drew
Walk-on
Wait until summer
Go to any other school than UTK
But it was mostly a joke.
Stokes started it all off by trying to transfer from Central, where he had starred for 3? years...to play at Southwind in his senior season.
His petition to play in his senior season was denied...he wasn't eligible to play at Southwind.
That led him to the decision to graduate early..and its why we didn't have a scholly ready...as the last one was given to Drew Barham(?)
How difficult would it have been to "find a way" for Jarnell to walk-on for one semester? Rhetorical - pretty easy to fund one semester. He didn't want to come. He didn't want to play for Pastner? Ok, fine. Call it what it was though. I believed the "no scholly" thing for a while too. Until other non-truths started coming out, and I really thought about this situation. (Not directed entirely at you - there are many others.)
Anyway, just a take about the players who had older family members going to the Evil Empire, making it right.
I think a recruited player is not allowed to walk on.
Yes, they are. There are rules about prior relationships and such, but recruits walk-on all the time (Andre Allen, Drew Barham, Ryan Boyce, etc.).

According to Cody Toppert, the staff like what Isaiah is showing; his passing when playing the high post, the physicality he brings and being a defensive coach on the floor. His presence has accelerated the growth of the young guys.

Macgar is right.
If a player takes an official visit, he has to be on scholarship to play that season at that school. "recruited walk ons" like Jarnell was cannot walk on and play that same season, unless they are on scholarship.
Jarnell took a visit to Memphis and Kentucky in the fall of 2011, so he could not walk on and play in the spring of 2012 at Memphis or Kentucky, since neither had an open scholarship. Tennessee had an open scholly, so he could immediately play there.

Recruited Player by NCAA definition...
I am pretty sure Barham wasn't officially recruited and neither was Boyce.

My wife and I go to dinner frequently with a couple. The husband is a Univ of Florida alum. I really need Isaiah to develop and turn into a role player at Memphis. These photos make it appear that he is on that path.

Good clarification.
But, again, I was mostly making a (evidently bad) joke about the family connections of Memphis players who went to UTK.

Reminds me of the photo of PHN bench pressing as he lost all that weight. Naturally, Cal took full credit for it, and asserted that he had probably saved Pierre's life by making him get in better shape.

Bump.
Penny said:
Stokes has the best footwork of any Memphis big man.
Stokes is an automatic mismatch on the floor.
Stokes has yet to be ruled eligible.

I love the stories of awesome practice players that are ineligible. Has he broken a backboard yet?

Who has been working with him during the offseason, Waki Williams or Stan Simpson?

Definitely looking in good shape. That is great to see and great to read positive practice reports. If basketball does not work out put a football jersey on him and line him up at tight end!

His ability to give Wiseman and others a different look in practice is valuable.
Reminder: I'm not a Stokes believer. However, we do need bodies and I do believe in Penny and his vision.

Lol. Word is Stan has been showing him some sweet post moves. With this marked improvement he’s expected to start over Wiseman if he’s ruled eligible.
In all seriousness, I do hope he gets a waiver to play this year. He may have good footwork, but I’d question any player (that size) who averaged 1 rebound a game. Hopefully Penny can resurrect his career. We could use some beef if he knows how to throw it around.
