This shows why college football tv ratings will never reach the level of the NFL. College Football is a regional product compared to the NFL which is a national product. So to those who say college football is more popular than the NFL, you keep on living in that dream of yours.

yeah I was waiting to get the final numbers- think they were a bit slow due to the holiday.

this weekend should get several games in the list.
Texas A&M @ Clemson- if it's close could post a big number
LSU @ Texas- should be an end of season top 10 game.
and then 1-2 other games will easily get over 2 million viewers....

Week 1 analysis -

In the only matchup of top 20 teams, Oregon-Auburn garnered a 48% increase in the same slot as last year. It helped to have little competition.

The ratings for OU-Houston decreased 21% from last year, and was the worst Sunday night since these bigger games were moved to Sundays in 2016. In 2017, there were 2 games against each other, West Virginia-Virgina Tech and TAMU-UCLA, which had over 7.8 million combined viewers. If only one of those games occurred, it probably would have surpassed the 5.4 minion for OU-Houston.

If Houston had shown up for the first quarter, the ratings would have been better. Midway through the 2nd it was 21-0 and OU had also missed a FG.

RE: 2019 College Football TV ratings top 10
saw we're going to get top 2 games this past weekend..

LSU/Texas got a 5.8 rating- should get around 9 million
Texas A&M/Clemson got a 4.7 rating- should get around 7.3 million

the LSU/Texas game will be a final top 10 game for sure this year. A&M/Clemson will be close.

Army/Michigan will get around 5.3 million and be on the list for sure as well right now. Cincy/Ohio St will get around 4 million and be on the list now as well...

Those are healthy numbers.

LSU/Texas - looks to be near even with last year's OSU/PSU game (highest rated ABC PrimeTime game of 2018).

A&M/Clemson - looks to be WELL above every ABC Day game from 2018, except the Big XII title game. The 2nd highest rated ABC Day game in 2018 was Ohio State/Maryland at 5.6MM viewers. That game benefited from people tuning in in the 2nd half as they realized it was close. A&M/Clemson did not have that benefit.

Cinci/Ohio State - if it gets 4MM, that's still 14% higher than Oregon State @ Ohio State from last year. Which was fairly similar: Ohio State, Noon game, ABC, blow-out, mid-tier opponent. (the 2018 game did have a weather delay, admittedly)

Army/Michigan - if it gets 5.3MM, that's just behind U-M/MSU 2018 (5.4MM) and just ahead of OSU/MSU 2018 (5.2MM). Both those games were Noon on Fox, so it's a fair comparison. Admittedly, this number did benefit from the closeness of the game, but neither of the two 2018 games mentioned were blowouts either.

It's early, but college football ratings have had some positives here to start 2019. NFL week 1 ratings look promising too, based on the overnights.

UC/OSU is always guaranteed to do well just because it pulls in every football fan in the state of Ohio - those who want to see the Buckeyes win, and those who want to see them lose...

Per Sports Media Watch, LSU-Texas, TAMU-Clemson, Army-Michigan, and Nebraska-Colorado had enough viewers to make the season-to-date top 10.

NFL 520ish games in a year.

College football 1600+ games just in FBS a year.

Ok, ratio remains the same. I just did it by teams multiplied by games. Forgot to include the other team playing.

More than 3x as many college games, NFL gets whole regions behind one team. Total numbers are going to favor the college game, especially when including the FCS schools.

Same way it works out for Football vs Basketball, those extra games and therefore people add up.
